    Hi,
New 2016 Toyota Tacoma owner. I just hit 6K miles- I've had my truck in the shop 3 times already for the front tire noise but they can't figure it out!! It isn't affecting my ride but the noise is annoying especially after dropping $35K CASH!!! It is some sort of a vibration noise- seems like drivers side tire area- toyota said it was holes in my frame and added plugs? But that wasn't it! It is more prevalent when my truck sits for a day or a weekend. And also seems louder when I take my foot off the gas. Anyone else?

How long does it last when you take foot off gas?

At 40 or so around 2k rpm (I have a manual so my speed/RPM will be slightly different) I get a "wooom wooom wooom" exhaust drone resonance. Happened before I switched out catbacks too. Is it possibly that?

If not need to describe the sound a bit more, there are lots of different types of vibration sounds

Probably either the front driveshaft spinning from viscous action in the front diff or the driver-side needle bearing vibe.
You can zip tie the driveshaft to test.
Needle bearing vibe usually goes away in 4x4.

Try switching it into 4HI and seeing if it goes away. If it does, it's probably the same problem the 2nd generations had with the driver's side differential output shaft needle bearing. The fix isn't difficult, but it won't be covered under warranty.

Take appropriate precaution when doing this on dry pavement.
Stuff will bind and break if you're not careful. You can lose control as well.

I put tape over 3 of the 4 holes on the front right and left control arms and wham!! Fixed the problem. There's a thread for the howling noise on here. Pm me if you this that's it, technically not the frame but sounds like you may have done this with plugs?

Cross post from another thread I posted in yesterday, but this applies.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...cas-and-285-70-17-install-query.440304/page-4

1,000 mile report on an Icon Stage 3 setup. I have a 2016 TRD Off Road with 23,000 miles on it. Have owned the truck since new, no heavy 4WD use. I installed a Stage 3 setup with Total Chaos UCA's.

I HAVE A BAD VIBRATION THAT MAY BE GETTING WORSE!!!

This vibration can lightly be felt through the steering wheel, lower seat back, and gas pedal. It is not a 1:1 rotational vibration, but a "womp womp womp" at the rate of about 3-5 tire revolutions. It is noticeable from 35-55 MPH. I have the coils set at the factory positions as received. I have FN FX Pro wheels with 275/70R17 BFG's on them. Tires were installed same day as the lift. I did all the work. I was in the shop when the alignment was performed and had +3 castor, ~0 camber, and toe was equal to both sides.

I installed the carrier bearing drop with no +/- results. I then installed the diff drop with no +/- results.

I THINK THIS IS THE KEY: The vibration completely goes away when I shift into 4HI.

I called Icon Tech and they didn't have any reference to others having this same problem.

As the truck sits now, it has the lean. Center cap to fender measurements are: Driver's: 23" Pass: 24"

I want to love this setup, but I can't live with this vibration. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I will be reinstalling the stock wheels just in case the new tires are resonating the CV axles but I am not sure that would help.

EDIT: SHOULD HAVE TRIED THE GOOGLE
    I found this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...tial-bearing-vibration-thread.152173/page-185
    Which led me to this:
    http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-85...bushing-eliminates-needle-bearing.html#videos

Anyone know if the 2016 TRD Off Road has an 8" front diff? I know the rear end is different from the second gen, but not sure about the front. I will update when I figure this out. Toyota must be selling 3rd gen owners the same junk diff as the 2nd gen owners. I want to love this truck, but this is making me miss my Nissan.

It DOES go away when I switch to 4HI...now what? This vibration is so aggravating especially in a brand new truck with <5000 miles on it!!

I had this same problem and it took 3 trips to the dealership to try and troubleshoot it. At first they thought it was tires, so they road tested the tires and two of them failed miserably so they gave me two new tires. The next day, the sound came back but I haven't had the opportunity to take it back. Two new tires for free though. Truck was at 4k mi when it started. Now at 10k

Same Here... Anyone else?? :( Current set-up; 2inch front spacer lift, 1.5 rear blocks, diff-drop, 1/4inch spaced carrier bearing. As others have stated the issue goes away when in 4W high. Considering removing the diff-drop and carrier bearing spacer to see if that helps. Suggestions..??

    UPDATE:

I removed the diff drop and carrier bearing spacers. I ordered the bushing and removal tool from east coast gear supply. I removed the drive side needle bearing in the front diff and installed the bushing this past Saturday and the DAMN noise is gone. What a pain in the ass for something so easily remedied by the manufacturer. Just stupid.

Toyota has had this issue with the entire Tacoma line sense 95'.

I took my 3rd in for regear this morning, and I noticed they use a bushing on the passenger side, looks just like the one from ecgs, yet not on the driver side.

Toyota dealers know about this, their playing dumb if they don't.

This is exactly what I did to pinpoint the same noise, zip tie the front shaft in 2wd . I don't get the vibration when warm [over 65 degrees] The dealer wont do anything about it . Take it or leave it is there attitude

I have this issue too (since 2000 miles or so on the odometer). It seems to go away with ambient temperatures above 75F. Now that we are finally getting back to the 50F range I am hearing/feeling it again. My truck is stock (no lift) but I'm guessing the needle bearing is the issue.

I think this is what I was experiencing as well
    16 trdordcsb
    265/75r16 ko2
2" front spacer and 1.5" rear block
    no diff drop

Tried a diff drop afterwards and it made it better but not gone

Ended up taking it all off since I couldn't figure it out.

There isn't anything you can really do about it short or pulling the front driveshaft. It's just the mechanics of the system and the way the chassis/body is designed it transmits the noise. My truck does the same thing
