Did you replace the gaskets on the manual transmission? Any idea what the part number(s) are? Thanks!

I changed my manual transmission, rear differential, and transfer case oil. Also greased the drive shaft on my 2016 off road. It took a good bit of grease, so was likely under greased from factory. I immediately noticed a big difference in ease of shifting, especially into first and from first to second, as well as into reverse. I didn't notice any rev hang. My differential and transmission oil looked like glitter, but all where filled properly from factory. Still have a slight howling noise in the differential from 50-60 mph when light on the throttle in 5th or 6th gear.

    **Edit**

About 50 miles later, there is no noticeable difference from before changing the fluids. Really interesting that it had a significant immediate impact, but it diminished the more it was driven. Possibly because there is a lot of wear going on and the fluid is dirty already with metal shavings? I am at 2,600 miles by the way.

Thanks Rodney! Guess I'll order a set of Bosch Icon's on Amazon..

    ***UPDATE***

Just took a yard stick out and measured. 22" Driver side - 20" Passenger side.
The Bosch web site is correct.

Never bad to change oil, i change transmission and diff oil every year just because. It should be clean but you'll have some metal in it just due to being brand new. Anything more than super fine material is not normal. Make sure you use a synthetic fluid.

My truck only has 4500 miles but i have decided to go ahead (for peace of mind) and change my oil/filter and maybe change my rear diff gear oil ( not decided yet ) i purchased the 0w-20 toyota oil at my local dealership and purchased Mobil1 75w-90 gear lube at Pep Boys for $8.84/qt with their 25% off online order special.
... anyone change their rear diff lube this soon or should i just wait till 10k-15k before doing that? I at least want to take out fill bolt and check it to make sure its full .. should it be right below fill hole when full?
    Thanks for any suggestions

That's about when I changed my oil. I changed both diffs around 2000 miles with Mobil 1 full synthetic. It's more of a piece of mind thing for me. I haven't done the t-case yet but want to. I've always changed my diffs once a year but I wheel and some times go thru water. If the water is deep I will usually change it a few days after I go thru it. It's a piece of mind and I don't mind doing it. I say if your thinking about it and already have everything just do it and you will know it's done. Just keep an eye on what comes out to make sure there is no chunks. It will probably be glittery which is normal.

My first engine and filter change was at 1000 miles. I'll do the diffs and transfer case at 5k with my next oil change. Engine oil will be done every 5k miles, diffs every year or every 10k, same for the transfer case.

Changed front and rear diffs as well as transfer case with mobil1 75w90 today. Im at 12800 miles. The front diff was a bitch to work around mostly because a skid plate needed to be removed but other than that it was easier than doing an engine oil change. Now there is no doubt in my mind that the toyota color option "magnetic grey metallic " was inspired by the crap you find on the magnet. I could've used it as touch up paint it matched so well

Not an ASE mechanic but I have read and received information from some knowledgeable folks that using Mobile 1 75-90w in the transfer case is not a good idea. Toyota wants an LF Transfer case fluid in the transfer case. Mobile 1 has a high sulfate content that may cause deterioration of the brass and copper (Soft metal) bushings on syncros. Royal purple Synchromax might be a better choice. I did contact royal purple. They warranty any damage caused if directly related to their products, and Synchromax is their recommendation for replacing the LF transfer case fluid. Toyota will not honor warranty if damage or failure was caused by not using an LF oil. Do your own research it's your truck. Do what you want.

Today I went into autozone and advance auto and couldn't find the royal syncromax. I thought about just ordering a couple quarts and changing it out whenever it came it but after your advice and some research, I would never have peace of mind as long as that shit was in there. So I did get 2 quarts of valvoline synthetic transfer case fluid, drained and filled it once, took it for a spin in 4wd, then drained it again to sort of flush it, then filled it back up again. This stuff should be ok for now right?image.jpg

I don't know anything about the valvoline. I contacted Royal purple. If you go to their website for Synchromax you will see my question about the 2016 Tacoma transfer case and their reply. I would think the valvoline would be okay as it has the lower sulfur levels and is recommended for GM transfer cases. I got my Synchromax from Amazon. Again I don't want anybody to take what I am saying as gospel. It is information I gathered from doing research and asking some mechanic friends and family. I will say that I went to my local Toyota dealership parts counter and asked for the LF transfer case fluid and the parts guy looked at me like I was crazy and told me they just use 90w gear oil they get in a 55 gal drum. So there is that. I unfortunately am like you and leave nothing to chance and would have visions at night of my synchro bushings melting like the nazis faces in Raiders of the lost arc.

I've always had a good experience with Redline 75w85 in the front and rear diffs.
I'll have to try to contact Redline on the LF gear oil for the transfer case...otherwise, I'll look into using the RP Synchromax.
