Anyone have a recommendation on a stubby antenna or just anything shorter than the stock one?

I remember reading some time ago that the best option may be to simply trim the stock antenna because the reception of the shorties isn't ideal.

pretty good, I did a lot of touchless car washes and never had an issue, let me check my history and see if that's the exact one I had.

Do you actually use your radio? Our stock one is great, minus how tall it is. I got an AntennaX one that did OK, then I bent it on the trail. Took it off and now I don't have an antenna. Doesn't bother me though because I listen to XM

    Yes I occasionally use fm.
But for the most part I use xm or my iPhone.

+1 - I just cut my factory antenna in half - negligible effect on reception.

Holds up like shit. And as far as reception goes... Same story. I never use my radio though, so it doesn't really matter. At this point it's got a weird copper orangey look to the bottom of it and the top of it is who knows where. If you want a shorter one... This WILL do that. It's only 9 bucks, so how much can you possibly expect. But honestly I'm super close to just junking mine and going back to stock. The orange copper look is starting to bother me. Funny a friend of mine got in my truck and was like carbon fiber antenna? Nice. I had to laugh at that. Carbon fiber? Kinda doubt it

I can't speak for reception on the Tacoma, but we had an OEM s2000 one on my wife car and we never had an issue. Now it was a car with a much lower roof line, but it was on the car 10 years and we never had a problem, either with reception or it aging. Just my .02 for what it is worth.

I run Cravenspeed Stubby antennae on my Tacoma and on my Shelby. IMO, they look good. In my experience, they're durable. Reception in the Tacoma suffered, while reception in the Shelby was virtually unaffected. Here's what they look like...
