Some people say the synthetic isn't worth it. Because it can freeze and be useless. Or when you break or frey it, you can't just chop it down and crimp a new end on it like you can the cabel. I have no experience with the synth line. Only with cable. I know i can fix cable

 

When it freezes, you piss on it. You can cut the shit parts off too just not as simple to do. Synthetic is worth it IMO since the possibility of decapitation is slightly reduced.

 

But "can i still repair it?" is what i'm curious about

Yuh.

Some times the crimps get messed up near the hook/pin on a cable line, would that same thing happen on the synth line? And could it be recrimped in the field?

 

I've never experienced synthetic crimping like that. Worst case, in the field scenario, I would cut off the messed up part and tie a figure eight knot to hold my hardware until I could get home and properly fix it.

I would never go with cable, mainly for safety's sake, and also for obvious weight savings.

Cable will seriously kill you if it breaks whereas synthetic will be a little safer (obviously not great) especially if you put a heavy coat or blanket over the middle of the line.

I used my synthetic line in freezing temperatures and 3' of snow this past winter and had no issues with the actual line. And the inside of my bumper and winch spool had been packed with snow from the 3' blizzard that came through.

As infrequently as i'd likely be using it. Synth seems to be more worth it.

 

Got the Panavise / RAM phone mount in today. But while doing so, I left my truck on "ON" power to charge my phone. Only took about 15 minutes to install the mount but I got out and noticed my headlights were flashing/flickering. Sure enough, battery was dead so I jumped it with my house's owner's car. Drove down the street to the Advance Vato and picked up a Autocraft 27F silver. Same CCA and RA as the 27F Duralast Gold I was looking at and didn't want to drive to the closest VatoZone so I just went with the Autocraft.

Truck started up so my first battery install went well I needed a new battery anyway and I'm glad I got this in before winter.

New battery in at 42,766 for my reference.

Also just ordered the Salex glovebox organizer. Tired of just throwing everything in the glovebox in a mess.

Noticed these weird cracks all around the sidewall of my spare. Sun damage to just outer skin or something to worry about?

Its sun dried.

Happens to all tires. Do you rotate it in?

 

Dry rot, get some Aerospace 303 to protect it from the sun. Works well on other plastic and rubber items as well.

 

Haven't rotated it with this set, it was brand new when I got this last set which was used.

Might rotate it in with this set now if it's safe to do so. Think they're still good to run?

Again, all tires crack. I would either rotate it in, or get a set of 5

 

I think I'll be rotating in the spare with this new set, but I'll try out the 303 before the next rotation.
