What do you guys think about a trip to Matagorda?

20 miles of beach. There is a "cattle" trail that runs on the bay side of the dunes which can get pretty muddy sometimes.

roughly the same distance from San Antonio & Austin. Houston is a bit closer.

    Just food for thought...

Looks like fun to me. Im up for it.

I cant really use my truck on tight trails since Im so wide so these kind of trips are my cup of tea.

Some TTORA guys went on a trip to Las Pozas de Cuatrocienegas They had a blast. They were looking for this. It was a 7 day excursion. Something to shoot for someday. [IMG]

I don't have the cojones to venture down into Mexico... unless in a large group like that one and appropriately armed... :) Seriously that would be an awesome adventure! I'm really interested in the whole expedition mindset.

I can't think of any place down in Matagorda that you would have a problem. Although there still quite a bit I haven't explored yet.. ;)

I agree with you its all about rolling in numbers down to Mexico. I think well armed might land us in one of Mexico's finest jails and our truck's vanishing into thin air.

Maybe after Matagorda we could plan a trip to Big Bend or something.

Back on Topic:D Lets got to Matagorda!!!!!!!!!

I know the Matagorda thing. Been there by plane to the Island where the cattle live on south side of rivermouth & have been surfing there many times on the north side of the rivermouth. Even paddled accross the river to surf south side once before. Which side are we talking about the wheeling?

WOW, this sounds freaking Awesome.. x2 on the Mexico Phobia though..

There is some thicker sand on the way.. honestly, not sure how much fun you would have with 2wd. Air down and stay closer to the water, you could probably make it. But if there is a line of people parked on the Beach fishing, you will have to drive through fairly thick stuff to get there. Seems like the first 3 miles is really easy. I think it's 18 miles to Mitchell's cut... 18 or 28, I forget.

Personally, I have no problem with a 2wd trying it, and pulling him out if he gets stuck. I have talked to other Taco people w/ 2wd that say it's no problem. is it lifted? Those Big Diesels make some pretty deep ruts.

I added a poll and add some additional info in the first post.

2wd is doable. I don't think it will be an issue. It's why we have straps. ;)

See the link in the first post for a map. This will be on the North side off of FM 2031. I don't know how to get to the South side outside of using a boat or aircraft.

Sounds like fun, I don't mind being the 2 wheel drive guy that gets stuck every 20 feet if you guys won't mind pulling me out. I can't make it the weekend of the 20th, my sons second b-day party is that weekend.

I'm 2wd also. Got me one of those recovery hitch things with the shackle for the back so I can be pulled out from either direction with ease, lol..........if I get stuck. Would be down for this trip, definitely. Can bring 2 12' sit on top kayaks to go out in the water to fish from too if the conditions allow. Water will still be cold tho.......:D...........I voted for Feb 20th because the 27th will be crunched by my work sched on 28th but could still squeeze it in then if that's the consensus. Supposed to be going to HV on 23rd so wifey will have to deal with meets 2 weeks in a row, lol. At least the Gorda one is local(ish)..........

Good, will finally get a change to meet you Jeff! Heck, the water may be smooth as glass... who knows. Camping, Fishing, Geo Caching, pulling people out.. I am down for whatever! I would like to explore some of the saltgrass areas out there.. seems as though there are several trails out there and I have seen Locals "tearing it up"..

Why? I was going to get him his own impact wrench for his birthday
