So, I'm putting together a list of all the things I should carry in my new taco and was looking for some input. I don't want to load it up too much, and preferably not have anything in any floorboard.
    What I have so far...

:edit this is for primarily paved travel only. Any off-roading will be pack for separately from my "everyday carry"

    Jumper Cables
    Tow strap
    Screwdrivers (Philips and flat head)
    Small socket set
    Road flares (2 or 3)
    Flashlight
    Fix-a-flat can
    Window hammer/seat belt cutter
    Maps
    First Aid Kit
    Ice Scraper

Does that have the "minimum" must haves covered without going overboard.

I would say primarily paved road with some occasional washed out gravel/caliche roads. I definitely would consider serious off-roading as a specific event and pack items specific to that, separate from my everyday carry.
And I am in northeast Texas

    -Recovery Straps
    -Bottle Jack
    -12V Air Compressor
-Small First Aid (need to check how old it is now that I'm thinking about it)

Haa-haa...KB Voodoo bed-rack with bed tent. Add that for off-road comfort and accommodations.

Minimums surpassed, good luck OP, I'd add a trailer to carry everything listed for your mall crawl.

Yup, don't break down on the freeway, bed tent might be first thing you invest in, don't forget the dog food.

I don't wear one when I'm headed to work because, for some reason, the TSA doesn't look too kindly on bringing one through security. I should probably add a hunting knife to the center console.
And I just realized I haven't found a place for my pistol in this truck yet.
