What 255s were those? They look like 9.5s next to those STT Pros. Good choice there as the STT Pro is 11.2 wide in a 285. Do you have any rubbing on the fenders?

Would be good to document, so others could know.

We should document at what tire width does a tire rub on fender, OEM UCAs or body mount with stock suspension and lifted.

Well just cancelled my order on the Big Horns.. Ugh.. gonna need therapy after this process.

If I can determine if the Cooper STT Pros in a 285/75/16, don't rub on Body, I am gonna go that route. they look like 11.2 in an 8" rim. The TRDs I am getting are 7.5" so the coopers might present slightly narrower, maybe enough to not rub??

255's are cooper st maxx. I rubbed on the front with 255's and 285's with a 3" lift and aftermarket UCA's. 285's required me to chop the cab mount.

Stock wheels are 7" wide and all the 285s I've looked at need 7.5"-9" wheel. Something to think about

you also need a spacer or more offset. 285 will hit control arm. I have 1/4" at most between tire and control arms with 0 offset 8.5"

What wheels are you running? MY TRD 16" Trail Teams with the 255s missed the body easily and did not even come close to the OEM UCA.

I have SPC UCAs but not installed yet.

I know there may be some rubbing at point of articulation but I may be willing to live with mild rubbing when that happens.

I just couldn't do the 255s, after looking at my pics again.. If I have to body mount chop slightly, I guess I will but I am gonna try to avoid if possible with right combo.

    Stock. For now.
I think the amount of rub may have to do with the offset of the wheel and the alignment. on a stock wheel and a 255. with the proper alignment i think you don't need to do anything except for removing mudflaps.

Liking the BFG AT KO2s, they are only 11.3 wide, but not as tall at 32.8. But maybe that helps with clearance, Clarence.. Walmart has the BFG AT Ko2s in the 285/75/16 for 208.00 each not a bad price, plus there is a rebate from BFG.

Bfgs run small. That's how you see so many people running them with "no rub"

My 255 85 16 BFG KM2s were much larger than my Cooper St Maxx in the same size. Probably an inch difference between the two. And that was with the BFGs mounted on the truck and somewhat worn.

Height, I never was able to get an accurate measurement on the width. I know that my 285 coopers and 255 coopers are identical in height despite the stated difference on their website.

I have a 16 DCSB 4x4 OR and am interested in the 255 sized tires. If you were to run the tall skinny 255 on the stock 16" wheels approximately how much lift would be needed to clear?

    Thank you

The common size is 255/85r16, which is 33". You need a couple inches of lift for that. You could also go which is 255/80r16, which is one less inch, or 32". You could probably get away with running that size on stock suspension

Why not just save yourself the pain and get a 275 70 16. It's gonna look good with an aggressive tread design. You won't have to worry about rubbing.

Tread depth is my guess. Did you spec them out?

You don't need any lift, I mounted one yesterday and it had tons of clearence all around. Now if your gonna go off road with it you might hit the inner fender wall, so lift would be a good plan.

255s are generally 33"-33.3", 285s are 32.8"-33" just depends on the manufacturer, tread depth. My findins are that ATs tend to be in the lower spectrum and MTs are on the taller side, which makes sense based on the taller lugs.

I need max lift for off Road, clearing features. That would really be a 255 but I just can't do the pizza cutters this go around, gotta go with a 11.2 or 11.3 width, so sacrificing roughly .3 to .5 in diameter. But really at the end of the day, is that really that much of a sacrifice? Probably moot.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/285-75-r16-results-on-2016-trd-offroad.396218/ I knew I had seen it.

And as far as the tire being to wide for the wheel I was running 6 37/12.50/17 tires on my dually with stock dually 7 inch wide wheels before this truck.

There is a BFG TA Ko thread in here sponsored by Discount.

I run the BFG KO2 34/10.5R17 with 17 x 8" wheels on my Land Cruiser. They measure small at 33.1" in diameter.
