Didn't you used to have longer shackles and regretted it?

I reject the EAF mindset that you need everything including a kitchen sink and a shower to spend a few days in the woods.

Yes, but the shackles were mismatched to the springs. The lateral length of the spring could never have used the range of motion that long of a shackle provided. That being said, if I had a longer main spring, plus a longer shackle, more travel could be netted. Not as easy as it sounds though, as there's lots of trade-offs. Just thinking out loud as I want to balance up and down travel while maintaining some weight carrying capacity and not compromise vertical travel.

Truck is going to be on jack stands a lot of this winter while I try to dial a nice mid-travel setup.

If that table affects my springs I've got a serious problem.

I started saying EAF to make fun of myself. My camp is really minimal other then the tent. Just have had (not much yet with the Tundra) all the expo truck gear (snorkel, skinny tires, tent, swing out bumper) without the expo type trips (think mall crawler). At least I 4wheel I guess.

Well see thats what im thinking too...dont really care about unloaded height. But i think when loaded with what i drive around with which is my tent (~180-200 lbs),, my plano trunk (~100, stays in the bed at all times) and planning for the future with a rear bumper w/ swingout im looking at 400+lbs of stuff and retaining 3" with all that plus 100 more of miscellaneous stuff for camping trips every so often. I think that would give me pleasing numbers still regarding travel escpecailly when i get the damn 10" fox's relocated. I'm thinking a leaf pack that can handle 400500 lbs while still retaining 3" lift would be reasonable. I just wanted your input on it and what springs yo were running. Do you happen to have a hub to fender measurement in the rear of your rig? I'm just curious compared to me and approximatley your "normal" carried weight?

Yeah when we people have a shit ton of camping gear it's ridiculous. I try and bring the smallest amount of stuff I can

I think a lot of people joke about it, but others are caught up with having all the fancy gear and act like they're preparing to live out of their trucks for months on end. Most of this stuff in completely unnecessary and will hardly get used and certainly doesn't justify the price tag.

Somewhere just under 24" hub to fender, but my driveway in uneven. The packs have sagged a bit since we built them too.

I'm carrying around quite a bit of weight all the time between the rear bumper, spare parts, fluids, misc straps and such, and recovery gear. I really don't add that much more weight when wheeling. Cooler is probably the heaviest thing being all the beer that is necessary, and add 6 gallons of water and maybe some gas. Also, won't give up my chainsaw and splitting maul, but really that's about it for added trip weight.

Relocating shocks is imperative to a proper setup, otherwise you'll always end up limiting one side of your travel, and usually uptravel, which it more important IMO.

Completely agree. One thing I've learned (especially here in Colorado) is that a large majority of people love to show off their rigs, but dread taking it on a trail "rated 4+ on Trail Damage". Personally, I try to travel as light as possible. Mainly because it drives me absolutely insane having shit bounce around everywhere, but also because I don't think it's necessary to bring you're entire house with you on an outing. Isn't that the point of camping and/or wheeling? To get away from the daily routine? Maybe it's the dirt bag in me that still prefers a tent on the ground... or maybe it's just me being cheap.:cookiemonster:

Yeah, but are they mounted on the roof so you can show them off to everybody? I thought EAF was about looking cool and not practicality.

Oh, and the word you were looking for was too, as opposed to to. :p

No it's not. I'll be sure to blow my motor for you on the trail with Ya so you can use them all.

    Well.....

I still love my fridge...and RTT...and portable beer keg shower. Cause rinsing your hair off after being on dusty roads for a week is awesome. And doesn't require finding a river or lake.

That's about as eaf as I get.

Well that's my whole reasoning is to get a good set of leaf springs that I will run for a while so I can relocate the rears based around those springs because the dakars are just not for me...Thanks for your help Brett I appreciate it!

Such a pity to see a perfectly good beer container used for a shower. :pout:

Pretty much stock with some crap welded to it.
If I ran a beer keg shower in Utah I'd get arrested.
