So, I'm heading up on Monday to check out the trains, coming back on Wed, spending our two nights in Millinocket. Heading there with my girlfriend in my fairly stock truck. Anything we should be concerned about other than yielding the ROW to the logging trucks? Looking at the pictures, I'm guessing, no, not really. But I figured since you guys were just there you'd have the most current intel.

'Bring a paper map' would be my primary tip. Cell signal up there is spotty, so if you're relying on cell phone GPS it's not great. Also bring warm clothes, food for 2 days, and water for 2 days. It's a holiday weekend so you probably won't meet many logging trucks, to be honest. But it also means there might not be much else for traffic, so if you break down you might be hanging out for a little while. Low percentage, but it's still there.

Have your spare tire aired up and don't drive to fast. Your GPS won't work unless you download maps in offline mode. I'm sure @DoubleRGirl or @mach1man001 has all of their directions saved still they could forward.

I drove there in the forester before they graded the roads without issue.

Yea cell reception ends completely in millinocket but that being said google maps works fine if you download enough area to get you there and back to cell service.

we downloaded satellite map ahead of time to use in offline mode. also google does a good job of taking you there. once we got into the allagash water way or whatever we followed directions from http://www.untamedmainer.com/how-to...-branch-railroad-in-the-northern-maine-woods/
They said there are 2 roads on the right that go to the trains, and that they took the second because it was more maintained. google will tell you to go straight, just follow this website's instructions. there is also a dip on that road which doesn't look all that bad, but i almost went end over end through it. at the end there is a small clearing and a path. follow the pink ribbons on the path until you get to the trains. it's not entirely a real trail, it gets pretty thick in some areas

    ^^^ What she said!

We stayed in Millinocket too. Where are you staying? We visited the trains on Saturday and then the B52 site on Sunday. I wished we had gone to the water slide that Cody @thepinktaco did but by the time we got home I was beat anyways so when I found out they didn't get home until super late so I was a little less disappointed we didn't go.

Make sure if you are going yourself that you are prepared like everyone was telling you and there is NO cell phone service up there at all. With that said you will be fine with a stock truck. Nothing modified needed at all. As a matter of fact once we pulled up there was a new style STI there so if he can make it... You get the point

Have fun. The trip is a blast

Did the last group there make it to the Tramway Near the trains
i think I hit that same dip at like 10pm. Gf was asleep in the passenger seat. She wakes up panicked and goes what was that! That would be the rear bump stops. And il be slowing down a little.
