Metal fill valves on tire no good for offroading?

    A buddy of mine was helping me with my skid plates. He noticed the metal fill valves on my tires and said that they can break when off roading and I should go get rubber ones installed. I think they are a end result of the tpms thing cuz my spare has the rubber one and it doesnt have a sensor. Is this something to consider?

    I have never heard of any one breaking a metal stem while wheeling. I am not saying it can't be done, just that it is highly unlikely. You would have to have one of those "wrong place/wrong time" moments.

    They seem plenty strong. I wouldnt worry about it.

    I've rubbed two out myself!

    If you don't play with rocks rubbing against your rims, you may never have a problem. If you have a wheel where they are set way back in your rim may be another situation that you may not worry. - Also, I would love to have ones that have a digital output ranging from 12 psi to 40 psi. I go between a couple of different settings depending upon rock crawling, desert running and being on the road (my kind of hybrid).

    Do you still have them installed in your after market wheels?

    Nope. But I occasionally look for other systems that might give me an individual tire reading - Like I said, I would love to know that a tire was loosing air while I am aired down.:)

    I might stop and have them taken out. I know someone who owns a tire shop and wont charge me.

    I had to go fix a water leak at the shop this morning so I had the guys at the tire shop pull the sensors. better safe than sorry
