Since it's so hot out right now I've been running the ac a lot, the other day i had it on full blast and a piece of foam broke loose and now it's blocking the vent to the left of the radio when the ac is on. Where did this foam come from? And how can I get it out of the vent? Is it hard to get access to the inside of the vent? If it's gonna be a really long process I'm really considering taking it to the dealership and paying the hour of labor for them to do it.

A/C piping is insulated, that's what your seeing. Most likely reason you're seeing it, is condensation has "rotted" the lining within those pipes.

Best to get a pick tool and scrap it out with a shop-vac handy sucking the crumbs up.

My 1st Gen 2004 2.4L Tacoma would blow small foam-like debris. This went on for awhile and finally stopped. My guess is there are foam wrapped components up under the dash and the stuff was breaking loose. The pieces were always small and never interfered with climate control air flow.

Yeah its kind of dense, I'd almost compare it to the liner on hard sided gun cases, I'll see if I can get my phone to take a decent picture when I get out of school today. I tried digging it out with a pick with no luck, the piece is so large and the hole is so small that I couldn't get it to pull out,

I haven't thought of that, might have to make a run to harbor freight and pick up a really small pair of needle noses, because all mine are full size And there is no way they will fit in LOL

I wouldn't rip it out unless it is really blocking air flow. They put one sided-adhesive foam around the vent ducts close to where they mate to the inner dashboard. I pulled a piece out of mine for the same reason, and it makes a squeaking sound now.

I used a pair of hemostats and a small screwdriver to work a piece out of my vents.

look for hemostats. I use 'em to remove hooks from a fish when they "inhale" something. They will go all the way in and reach 6" back easily.

EDIT: BTW I find these at good sporting good stores, Orvis sells 'em (I am a fan of Orvis fly rods), and if you know a doctor or nurse pretty well, they might scarf one for you for nothing. :)

Mine is fully blocking the air vent, air still gets through but not nearly enough when it's 100+ in the truck after 7 hours baking in the sun

That's too much... That should be a manufacturer warranty issue.
Toyotas quality standards are higher than that.

Looks like a 2011 may be a little past the warranty stage.

2nd Gen ac vents the vent screen thing to change where air blows out actually pops off with ease just pull hard enough and you'll have full access to your foam

Yeah. That foam shit clogging up your A/C vent should just be an issue on a 2016s
    .
There is a TSB for that.
