I ordered my 2017 in July and was told the hitch option wasn't available yet. Just wondering... is a receiver hitch for a 2016 compatible? Anyone know for sure or where I can get the answer? Won't have the truck until maybe mid October.

If you're getting a 4 cylinder, they don't come with a hitch from factory. If you're getting a V6 make sure that your ordered truck has a factory tow package. There's trucks on the lots already, why even "order" one when you could be driving what you want after a little searching.

If you ordered the truck with tow package you don't have to get the Toyota draw bar and ball. You can get that at wal mart or any auto parts store. The tow package should be available as its the same as 2016.

I thought the tow package came with a receiver hitch? Not the insert, but the actual hitch mounted to the frame.

Pretty sure the OP is inquiring about the entire frame mounted assembly, and others think he is just talking about the 2" insert and ball.

Yes, tow package includes the frame mounted receiver. The tow package is the same for 2016, so he should have no problems getting it.

It's for people who don't want exactly the same combination of stuff as the unwashed masses.

My 17 came with a toy package so a hitch should be available.

Thanks folks, I'll just take it to Hitch World and have one put on after I get it. As far as ordering a "massassed" produced vehicle...you will not find a Tacoma anywhere around here with a manual trans. In fact, in July you could not find a new Tacoma anywhere within 1000 miles of me that was not already spoken for. Sooo do i feel stupid for ordering what I wanted in the color I wanted, nope.

It's not just the receiver in the tow package.

You get other goodies to bolster the weak towing game of our (sorta) mini trucks

They arent supposed to come with the insert? Guess my dealer added and it charged me for it.

Understood. The most I will tow is a 16 ft aluminum boat a few times a year so don't really need the full blown tow package plus I don't think you can get it on the 4 banger manual model. If I was planning on towing a camper or something bigger I would have bought a different truck.

Don't bother with trying to get what you need at the dealer. It'll cost you significantly less in the aftermarket and the quality will be no different.

The mt will help with the towing. I used ta pull all sorts of stuff with my 99 2.7l mt. Hell that combination seemed to pull as good as the 4.0l at combo I drive now lol
