Going to do a coolant flush this weekend and wanted to double check a couple things. I have new thermostat and gasket, upper and lower hoses, clamps. Going to pick up the long life coolant from local dealer and I have 4 gallons distilled water. Mine is an o1 4cyl (2.7) so im thinking it has the long life and not the super long life coolant. Anyway, I have read different things on here and wanted to make sure, does the jiggle valve go up in the 12 oclock position on the 4cyl? I think I found the block drain valve also and going to try and drain it also. I think its a 17mm or 11/16 socket? Any help guys thanks. Here is a pic of the block drain:Truck 009.jpg

As per the jiggle valve on the 2.7 its in the 12 o'clock position!

    3.4's are 6 o'clock.

Jiggle valve is always at 12 o'clock. It's to help clear air from the system. No belt change?

I say you're fine with universal coolant, ie. SuperTech, Peak, Prestone. I have SuperTech in all vehicles listed in sig line. Bottle says it's for all makes and colors.

Even toyota specifies 6 o'clock for the jiggler on the 3.4. Its also been proved multiple times on here that if put in at the 12 position your 3.4 will run 10 to 15 degrees hotter than it should....

I think you are right. Swear OEM was at 12 when I replaced thermostat several months ago. It's been triple digits around here and gauge is always dead middle. Will connect ODB tool to check idling temp. First though, going for a bike ride...

Ok 12 o'clock it is, thanks. You referring to timing belt? The 2.7 has chain as far as I know. I'm a little nervous to use anything but the red stuff. Read to many horror stories to try anything else. I don't put very many miles on my truck so it wont have to be done again for awhile. You guys ever try and open the block drain? I got some pex tubing to try and fit over the drain to direct in a bucket. Hope I can open it without breaking the bolt head.

guys, I'm planning on doing a coolant flush here soon on my taco and happen to run across this thread. I'm usually pretty savvy w/my taco but...kinda embarrassed to ask, but what and where is the jiggle valve? o_O

Ive never messed with the block drain on my trucks, been kinda scared to do anything with it so i dont open a can of worms, i just flush it a couple more times with the distilled water to clear the system....i also stick with the red stuff and especially if thats whats in there now id just keep with it. Apperantly the red with green can interact and cause it to gum up er some shit like that, what ive heard/read anyhow.

    - Not the timing belt, the serpentine or v-groove belt(s). If over 75K, it would not be a bad idea to replace them. Shoot, I'd replace if over 50K - cheap insurance.
    - Red coolant. Stick to peace of mind, but I have not had any problems with universal coolants.
    - drain cocks. Yes, that's how I drain coolant, but mine unscrewed off easy. Probably due to dry pleasant year round weather in SoCal.
    - Jiggle valve. in Post #4, it was pointed out Toyota says valve goes in 6'oclock position for V6. I read others are 30 degrees from 12 oclock. The universal consensus is to position it as it came from the manufacturer. Note: some thermostat designs don't have a jiggle valve; they may have an opening along the face.

Yeah belts are on the list to do. I'll see how jiggle valve is positioned when I get it opened up. I have a new oem replacement so it does have one. I have the 2.7 so i'll go with 12 position. I'll try the drain and see if it budges easy or not, thanks.
