On the Bubble over 255/85/16s vs 285/75/16s

Tread depth would have had an influence if they were both brand new. What I am saying is I had a set of BFG KM2s on the truck that had maybe 25,000 miles on them, maybe 60% tread left. When the Coopers came in as replacements I rolled one out and lined it up next to the KM2. The KM2 with 60% tread and the weight of the truck on it was still taller than the brand new Cooper ST MAXX with no weight on it. When I got the KM2s off I left one mounted on the wheel and inflated to compare to the ST MAXX. With them both mounted on the same wheels and inflated to the same pressure, the 60% tread of the KM2 was about 1" taller than the brand new ST MAXX.

AussieK2000 your posts were super helpful. I am a Maxxis fan but.. your poke at them got me to do some additional recon and If I could do an 11.7 width, I would have gone with them in a 285. The BFGs in a 285 come in at 11.3" wide and are gonna work great and I usually have to drive 6+ hours on highway to get to southern Utah, so the BFGs are gonna get me there a bit smoother also..

Also the added width of the BFGs vs what I was looking at in a 255, make it a better handling highway tire.

I figured out why I think i have rubbing. My alignment is from when i had the lift put on, but stock wheels/tires. Then i put new wheels and tires, and I started rubbing the drivers side cab mount. Maybe something got thrown off. Anyways, ill be getting a new alignment, after I get my new suspension on, so I should be good. Hopefully only a couple more weeks

 

What numbers are you going to ask for

 

I was just going to have them do their thing. With my new suspension, im going higher in the front, so I should definitely need an alignment.

The last time, i didnt have any issues. Except the fact that it was $130

 

Have a look around on the forum. There is a recommended alignment for the lift and tires. Just can't remember the numbers.

 

It's 0 toe, 0 camber, and 2.5-3 caster

Ok so I am a new member and I am trying to make sure the 255/75/17 bed Goodrich mt's will fit my stock 2016 trd off road Tacoma. From reading this sounds like they will any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

I ended up selecting 285/75/16s and TRD Trail teams rims!!!

Those are Cooper mtp

 

Yep, they're the cooper mtp! Wheels are 8" wide with 4" backspacing, so they stick out 2" farther than stock. Just driving around town they don't rub unless I hit a bump. I already did the CMC and hammered the pinch weld, as well as trimmed some plastic in preparation for wheeling next weekend.

 

They're going to rub bad off road if they do over bumps. I need to cut more of my cab mounts off

 

Yeah, the rubbing was before I did any cutting of anything. I've since done the CMC and hammered the pinch weld and trimmed some plastic off the corner of the flare. I've gotten all the bit stuff and the rest I'll just trim as it appears.
