Buzzy Vibration at certain RPM's..read before buying!

My passenger seat does that too. I had the dealer do a road force balance and it went away. It came back after a trip last month to Colorado from Ohio but not nearly as bad. I'm taking it back in prob next week for it's 10k service and I'll have them balance it again. And I'll mention the vibration again. I also noticed I have the howl. How did that crop up all of a sudden? It wasn't there before. Grrr.

 

Man more and more people here getting the howl. Howling differential, buzzing vibrations, wind noise, etc etc....the fancy new plastic interior and navigation screen can't hold all of them up.

 

Well, Toyota called. Yup, its a known issue with no fix at the moment. Tech. took another Tacoma for a ride and it had the same issue. There has been a case opened and I will follow up to Toyota Corporate with a nasty, but polite, letter expressing my disappointment with Toyota, their piss poor Q/C and Engineering. I mean, come on, how could anyone in good conscience release a vehicle for sale with a "known issue" like this. Design it, build it, sell it. Just don't put it through any testing period to see if the design is any good. Sorry to Bitch, just really disgusted. Maybe it's time to start circulating that class actuation petition.

 

Wind noise. Just noticed passenger side today on way back from hunting trip has a sound like the door or window is slightly cracked. Now I need to go research what that could be on the search function...

 

What issue? Toyota acknowledged the buzzy vibraton as an officially known issue?

If so, that would be new.

As for conscience, I doubt there is any. This is a business decision. Maybe miscalculated, and by now, I actually hope Toyota will no longer be able to ride on their past reputation. Fully deserved.

 

Yeah if Toyota finally acknowledged the buzzing vibration as an issue we've made progress. So far it has been "normal."

Usually what happens is somewhere along the chain of command this vibration gets confused for the shudder/rumble strip type of vibration when coming to a stop or travelling at low speeds (which rumor has it is acknowledged as an issue and is being worked on).

 

Is this the same problem we are experiencing?

Unfortunately this was issued in 2014 for 05 - 14 trucks. I won't wait years for this to be fixed.....

While not exactly the same, it sure took a long time for the TSB to come out. Hope they find a fix for this soon......

Drove a friends Limited today and I really had to pay attention to notice a vibration in his. It was probably 25% of what mine is.

 

Well gents, ended up trading in the Tacoma today (took a very minimal loss on my trade). I couldn't take the buzzing vibration, gear hunting transmission/flares, clunk/thud when stopping intermittently, and the driveline/washboard feeling vibration when coming to a stop any longer.

I really wanted to love this truck (my first Taco) but it was quite clear that life is too short to be glued to a truck forum hoping for someone to say there's a fix on the way for this particular issue. I was spending way too much time monitoring this (and other) thread(s) for the many issues I had spring up on mine. I can't stress any more that I'm utterly shocked that Toyota would have released their flagship truck with this symptom. I also took one last shot with Toyota to see if they'd acknowledge the issue at Customer Care and as expected, they restated they've never heard of this issue.

In the end, I'm quite happy with the F-150 purchase and I truly wish you guys the best of luck. I'll keep an eye on this thread and stay strong for those of you who are holding out for a resolution! I hope one comes soon for the loyal owners out there.

 

I had a 2008 Tacoma 4 cyl years ago that was exactly what I expected and hoped for.
Switched to Ford for 2 new Explorers ,loved each, did have a few minor problems,, but I took an absolute thrashing on trade in.
Now back in a '16 Tacoma, I am having regrets , and will be moving on as soon as I find a mid size truck that suits me.

Waiting on my 10K service to be ready at dealer.
Drove a TRD dbl cab and an SR5 access cab both new, V6
The TRD has some noticeable vibes, the SR5 far milder, though its there ( compared to my SR5 4cyl)
I really doubt the trim level has anything to do with it but thats 2 SR5 V6 Ive driven with only slight vibes and 4 TRDs with moderate to severe vibes. So dunno, just reporting what Ive observed.

 

Thanks man! After only a day driving the F-150, I know I made the right decision. Yes, its bigger but is light on its feet and a lot less effort to drive (the engine is glass smooth unlike the coarse 3.5 the Taco had).

I think anyone who's contemplating trading their Taco - you'll be surprised at the trade in value you can get at a dealer who's willing to work with you. I only took a $1k loss.

 

Enjoy it -- never thought I would have to dump a 2016 Limited with 2800 miles. No regrets.

This is tempting me to go look at f150s.

There just seem to be so many damn options. What's the most comparable to the TRD OR double cab?

 

They are completely different trucks, but interior wise I think even the base model would be superior. Other than that whatever let's you choose get a locking diff.

Remember it is full size so you'll have more power/torque and way more interior space by default. But you also get the drawbacks of a full size which is harder to park in certain areas/garages and not as capable on narrower trails.

Other than they are all gains. But like I said different trucks aimed at different markets.

The ford build page is really easy to use, check it out. I think you'd be impressed how much you can customize it, even down to the rear axle ratio.

 

Yeah, if your buzzing is anywhere close to where mine was (1500-2300 rpm, all gears), then I don't think it would hurt to check out the F-150's. What spurred me were all of the incentives being offered and 0% financing.

To answer your question, I think the FX4 package would be the closest to the TRD Off-Road. It has the skid plates, off-road shocks, etc. However, I don't believe it has crawl control or anything similar. Mostly all of them come with a locking diff (mine did, 3.55). I think some of you guys must be really picky. What Fucking vibrations. some of you have every problem. Most people none. I want to understand why.
