I just want to say, I get where you are coming from man. I really do. But I am slightly mechanically inclined enough to take care of some of these issues on my own. As are many people on this website. The bottom line question though is, should I have to do all of these things with my brand new 40k+ truck from the get go? That is the real question.

I appreciate the feedback man. I may push for that if all else fails. Get a 4Runner. My motorcycle sure does like my truck though...

You should not have to do these repairs so early. There appears to be a quality control problem. Maybe I should go work at Toyota since I teach the principles of Grandpa Toyoda (a truly honorable man who would have stopped the line with what we are dealing with today).

I have a double cab TRD 4X4 Off Road and there are no grease zerks on the driveline at all. Are there many others with this configuration ? Just being curious. Dr.C

Texas built truck ... i've heard these same complaints from trucks built in both Texas & Mexico. I am lucky that so far i have not experienced any of these issues on my 16' SR5 2.7 AT 4x4 .. not saying i won't
I would be very upset if i had all the problems you listed on a brand new truck. I did have under-greased zerk fittings but checked them right after buying truck and had to pump grease into all 5 ..one took 6 pumps before it started purging

When was your truck made? I know somewhere on the site before there were people posting on here stating that they did not have zerks or not all 5 of them. Have you rotated the drive shaft and such to see if they are hiding?

Built in July, San Antonio, No zerks. Dr.C U-bolts took a turn or two to tighten to 60 ft-lbs.

@smitty99 and another guy are on diff two or three all the same howl developed again, one guy said the Toyota Engineer/Field guy even admitted they don't have a solution right now or know the exact cause, a few 17 owners polled in the howl thread having same issue. Betting the diff is unchanged. This is Toyota, things move slow when it comes to updates.

Interesting. I know, in the last 8 years there has been a lot of R&D with hypoid gear pitches. There could be some efficiency opportunity in new designs. A hypothesis is Toyota is trying a new pitch, and the wear in the gear is resonating through the diff. and the backlash is not appropriate. I saw this on Fords before. Just a hypothesis.

I have to ask as I am genuinely curious. Why would this be an issue? I don't think my truck sees 2100 RPM for more than a split second or so while shifting. I guess if you had a manual or put it in S, but 2100 isn't the most efficient way to be driving around unless you are pulling a hill or something.

people have this obsession with finding the exact scenario when a car acts up, and then only driving that way. Instead of either speeding up, slowing down, or using a different gear.

My truck has nearly all of the 16 issues. They won't even address the TSB for the LCAs because it "doesn't apply to the 17"

Because it shouldn't happen at all? Why anyone would accept issues like this on a brand new $36k truck is beyond me. I came from all Fords (2 Rangers, 5 Mustangs, and an F150) and none have had issues like this Tacoma has in its first 1500 miles. There were over 100k miles on several of them, too.

My truck sits around 2100 at 75-80 mph on interstate.

There's nowhere around here near me where that's even legal. 80 would be automatic reckless driving.
