It's more annoying when you're stuck behind a line of traffic and they're still riding your bumper. Like "Hey Dumbass, there's 6 cars in front of me. Riding my bumper isn't going to make me go faster...but it might earn you a brake check. "

...^^^... Very possible if all things are right.

PS I had a 1965 GTO, HT no post, rally looking wheels, 389 CI, 335 HP, 3:23 rear, 3 speed in the floor.
Weird combo, but was cheapest GTO on the lot at the time.

    Great sounding OEM duals too

I drive lots of 2 lanes and some people are obviously just not comfortable passing on 2 lanes. I invoke the 1 chance rule when behind one. They get one chance to pass but on the next passing zone I am taking both.

Sweet, you purchased it new, in my opinion 65 is the best looking year for the GTO. A friend had a yellow 65, tri-power, 4 speed, 390 gears, I really loved the looks of it. What color was yours?

Talk about Weird, I have a regular GTO with a Ram Air III engine, bucket seats, no console, auto trans with the shifter on the steering column. Not many Non Judges had the Ram Air package. I also have a 4 speed Judge with Air Conditioning.

...^^^... I have never seen a GTO with a column mounted shifter (do all the numbers match ?) Mine did not have factory A/C ... put an under the dash A/C unit that worked well, but took up a lot of knee room.

It was a weird greenish-blue dark turquoise (maybe teal turquoise) and the hood scoop was not functional.

Yep, bought it new with my paper-delivery-route money and summer jobs. Did that job from 12 y/o to 17 y/o and the GTO was a little over $3,000 MSRP. IIRC.

Any car with a 4 speed back then was a super tough on insurance and the 3 speed came under the radar back ... because muscle cars were just getting higher rates then.

I did change the rear to a 390 and then wrecked it ... had it repaired and it was never the same. The difference between the 335 HP and 360 HP was 3x2's and a cam I think.

Yes the numbers all match, I have copies of the original build sheet for both GTO's. The GTO has it's own code, not the same as a tempest. Prior to the build sheets, I checked the dates of manufacture for some of the engine components, dates fit when the vehicles were built. The Judge did not have it's own code and became one the most counterfeited muscle cars.

Fortunately back then my dad was my insurance agent. You are correct about the HP difference being just the tri-power and cam. I've got a 65 tri-power setup, rebuilt the carbs but never got around to using it.

I like the color of your 65, I remember a seeing a 65 being restored in your color, really sharp, defiantly a head turner..

Once I drove a 65 Goat with a 2 speed automatic, not a good combination for performance. If I didn't know better, I would have questioned it being an authentic GTO.

Judging by your name, your life's never been dull. Thank you for your contributions helping people.

Here's my brother's recent purchase, the Red 69 in front. He had a blue 69 back in 80-82. Another brother had a white 68, tach on hood. I'm
Mopar all the way, but have a soft spot for Pontiacs and would love a 65 2+2 Convertible with a stick. Guy on my paper route in 74-6 had a White 70 IV Judge and a 69 Trans Am III, made delivery fun, but I liked the red 69 Coronet R/T convertible down the block better.

Love your brothers new GTO, thanks for the picture. A neighbor around the corner from me purchased a new 65 Red 2+2 convertible tri-power with 4 speed but moved away a short time later.

I like all muscle cars. Wish I had the money to purchase my dads 6 month old street hemi but couldn't afford it. I paid $400 for a 69 396 SS Nova, perfect body, 1,700 original miles, missing the engine, and transmission. I was going to fix it up but sold it to a good friend who went nuts when he saw it and had to have it.

Nice having the great eye candy on your paper route, I delivered papers before the muscle cars hit the streets.

My Judge is White, original hood tach, my other GTO was originally red and repainted Blue. Your brothers colors.

Hearing a old V8 with a cam, is sweet music to my old ears. I joined a local GTO club and the first and only meet I attended an officer of the club said right to my face he didn't believe my Goat was a Ram Air car. He said this after I stated " I have the original build sheet" My car doesn't have any reproduction parts except carpet so I don't know what his problem was, but I wasn't going back. It was really nice seeing all the GTO's, approximately 30 and chatting with some of the members. Most of the GTO's had aftermarket cams, not only did they look great, they sounded great. It was heavenly music when they all started up and left at the same time.

Yes, unfortunately, there are a lot of "experts" that don't know as much as they think.

There are of course many that do. My brother met up with the local Madison WI area Pontiac group and they checked his out and found a few "flaws" but which turned into a bonus. They identified the carb as original for a Stage 1 Buick, and worth around $2k while a correct for his car carb could be had for more like $500. Also somehow has a distributor for a RAIV.

I suggested he replace the front drums with discs just to be safe, hard to believe more people didn't die with the drums back then, my Challenger was next to useless when I did a few panic stops from 65 mph, just to see how bad they were, while convincing myself to swap to discs. He agreed after trying the same.

He's looking to have fun driving it hard like I do with my Challenger, not rare enough to care about some "incorrect" upgrades. He did find out he needs better gas than 93 that he hadn't anticipated.

Your brother found a great group. Nice surprise discovering the incorrect parts were worth a lot more money than the original.

My dads 66 street hemi had drum brakes with the wrong master cylinder from the factory, caused the brakes to chatter and doubled the stopping distance from high speed, it took a couple months for the dealer to locate and fix the problem. I remember a 62 Chrysler, drum brakes that pulled but never in the same direction. Normally when drum brakes pulled it was always the same direction, the driver would anticipate and compensate, example the vehicle would always go right when braking. That Chrysler really wasn't safe at freeway speeds because you never knew what direction it would go. Really hard to keep in your lane when braking hard.

One odd thing I discovered with my Non Judge Ram Air was a black grill. I believe only The Judge came with a black grill, although I've never seen this published and no one that has seen the car has commented on the black grill. I did find evidence of a prior front collision. There was a period of time when it was not possible to truly document a Judge. The only way was checking for the correct engine and Ram Air parts. During this time The Judge was the most counterfeited muscle car, thus I would not sell my Non Judge. If a wing was installed on the trunk lid it was impossible to prove it wasn't an authentic Judge. My Judge has disk brakes, the other has drum brakes.

When I purchased my Judge the seller pointed out he had just installed a rebuilt carburetor. Somewhere I found the correct part number and it's not correct for the Judge. I have no idea what it's supposed to fit but doubt I would be lucky like your brother. The people who checked out your brothers GTO really have a lot of knowledge. I've had my GTO's over 30 years and back then I used to read car magazines but haven't in many years.
