So Im in the market to replace my old 27” CRT TV which I’ve had for the last 20 years and boy TV’s have come a long way in technology and features. I’m hoping somebody out there in the TW nation knows more about TV’s than I do and can recommend me a good place to start. From browsing around on Amazon and best buy it looks like 60” is where I want to be for my living room.

Whats the difference between 4k HD Super HD and all the variants? I don’t have HD service right now but want to upgrade to it. I have time warner and Im going to call them and get 4K service or whatever the best service is.

Is there one superior brand that everybody likes/ would recommend me to get? My 27” is a Sony and its been flawless for a long time. Are Sony’s still good? Im hoping to keep this TV for another 20 years and would prefer to be able to mount it on the wall. Opinions are appreciated.

From what I understand 4K is top tier right now but very little is being recorded in 4K and even less being broadcasted in it

Not to burst your bubble but a new TV will not last 20 years, much like many other things produced today, they are pretty much "disposable" my 6+ year LED TV cost me $1600 and is on its way out as I am having issues with the picture. It can be fixed but the repairs would be more than a new TV.

From what I have heard Vizio gets you the best bang for your buck, they have different lines with the P Series being the best if I am not mistaken, best thing to do is go to a store like Best Buy where you can see the TVs side by side to pick what looks best in your eyes then compare prices on Amazon.

Its a bummer they dont make things to last anymore, but im ready to make the leap into the 21st century. Are Vizios the new hot brand out these days? Are they the new hot item to have?

Vizio is a great TV for the money.

I'd either buy one of theirs or a Samsung.

The vizio m series us best bang for the buck right now. M60 c3 can be had for great price and it's a fantastic tv.

Also "led tv" is a common misnomer. It is still a lcd screen.

I have 2 Vizios. One is a 2007 42" LCD and the other is a 2013 55" LED. Both were purchased at Costco and have been very good TVs. I will say the remotes are kind of cheap, but I don't use those anyway except for some menu control.

4k is a waste on anything smaller than 65" unless you sit really close to your TV and have good vision. OLED is the top tier feature at the moment, 4k is far less important. Check out the LG OLED TVs. Any of them will be superb so just get whatever you can afford or want to pay for. They are the best of the best on the market right now.

Any of them will blow your mind in HD compared to that old CRT you had. I just purchased a Vizio for my parents last Christmas and they love it .. it is their first HD tv. They didn't realize they had to upgrade their cable tv package to HD to receive all the shows in HD so their monthly bill increased a bit BUT they love watching all the shows and sports in HD.
I have 2 Samsung HD tvs and the Vizio is a close quality picture but was way less $ than i paid for my Samsung. I wouldn't worry about being sold the tvs with 4k and all that .. very few shows/movies are in 4k anyways

Wow, Thank you for the feedback everybody. So I should try and stay away from 4K? Isnt that going to make it future proof for a long time?
Keeo it Samsung or Vizio? I watch a lot of Soccer and I want to get HD service now.

    Something like these?

Your new TV will sometimes make everything look Soap Opera like depending on it's initial setting. It's a feature that can be disabled or adjusted in settings, usually called Motion something or something Motion. ie: Auto Motion Plus for my Samsung. Some people like it, some don't while others can't tell unless it's pointed out to them. I don't notice it anymore but kinda like it.
