Ahhahahhaha yeah cheap ass is paying for a 400 series SS mandrel bent system from Borla. It's not like I made the shit in my backyard from soda cans.

Just because something is the most expensive doesn't mean it is the best value. I don't have to go flex my nuts around the neighborhood saying "lol YOURS only cost $600?? MINE WAS 800, doesn't matter how it sounds or what the build is like, just that it is the most expensive."

So with that attitude why don't you have one of the big names in the business custom build you a catback to your exact specifications? Is it because you're a cheap ass or at least have a sliver of common sense that beyond a certain point you aren't really getting much extra for your money?

I sure hope it is the latter.

And I don't even know if you read my whole post the entire last paragraph stated that if someone feels the sound difference is worth an extra couple hundred dollars then by all means go for it, but buying it just because it comes on the accessorized 4x4 OR truck named the Pro and is most expensive single exit catback is actually kind of stupid.

Borla = $640 (+$50 if you have a long bed)
TRD = $610 if installed at the factory / $800 MSRP for after factory sales.

Its just like with the TRD Pro grille, what was it, $800 for all the components but the BAMF is like $500?

Why are we still arguing about this. We all know Factory parts are more expensive. Just dont be "that guy" that gets the $350 catback and then come bitch when it starts falling apart.

Additional factor: with the OEM unit, no dealer can try to blame an aftermarket exhaust system for some problem you're trying to get solved.

Still, these are soley about the sound. I did the same thing with my funcar, sourcing an OEM "performance" exhaust from an out of town dealer selling them discounted on ebay. I've really enjoyed the sound and the decelleration burble even though though I don't pretend to think it's improved anything other than the sound. I expect to do similar with my TRDOR when I order it if they can get an exhaust, or wait and do it later if they can't. Costco 15% parts discount cuts $800 to $680.

Honestly, the only way to get a performance boost from an exhaust system is to get rid of the cat and go full test pipe or resonated test pipe. Anything cat back is all sound, or you may get 1-2hp difference but honestly you can get that from the TRD sticker.

Ok ok, let's get this part straight. No dealer can blame any issues on a catback period. Catbacks can not void any part of a warranty in any way shape or form. It is completely illegal for them to do that.

Dealers can void warranty on anything that is installed aftermarket if they can provide proof that that item is what caused it.

If you fail emissions, they can certainly blame it. If an O2 sensor goes bad, they can blame it. If your cat is bad, they can blame it.

ANY modification has the potential of voiding your warranty. How do I know this? I work in the industry. Some dealers tend to look the other way but there are dealers out there that go by the book and will blame everything you have done to your vehicle for your problems.

Of course they can. You're right that they shouldn't, but in the real world it does happen.

True, but also not what I wasn't referring to in my post.

Ignorance and idiocy does exist out there, even when it shouldn't, and my post was referencing reducing risk of hassle.

So what the both of you are saying is this : if you decide to add "performance" parts to a Tacoma under warranty TRD is the best bet

Let's get this straight, they can't void the warranty just because you attached something. They can claim that what you attached caused the problem and deny warranty service leaving you to fight to show otherwise.

Obviously if there's no way what you changed could cause the issue you have, the warranty will remain in full force. Go to bigger tires/wheels and snap an axle out wheeling? Yes, they might deny warranty, claiming the higher wheel/tire mass caused it. Radio dies instead? Not possibly caused by so you're fine.

That is ILLEGAL for a catback system that is emissions legal. Look at the Borla site, it is even in their FAQ with what to do if some dealer tries to pull that shit.

By adding TRD parts, you still run the chance of voiding your warranty if it was not installed at the factory. You just have a better chance of hiding that it caused the problem. TRD parts carry their own warranty aside from the vehicle. If the TRD part goes bad, it will be replaced.

"It's also illegal for a dealer to deny you the OE warranty because you have changed the exhaust system. This is an often asked question. But you will need to be armed with some basic information.

Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of 1975, 15 USC, 2302 and Clean Air Act 42 of USA code 7541, you have rights.

    This legislation basically states that:

In order for a dealer/manufacturer to deny a warranty on a claimed part, they must PROVE that the part YOU installed/had installed DIRECTLY caused the failure of the part on which you’re claiming the warranty."

ANYTHING is possible. To say it will never cause a problem is ignorant. I am not saying that the moment you put the cat back on your vehicle its going to void your warranty, or any problem you get they are going to blame the cat back. It has to pertain to the problem that arises and I am merely stating that if one does modify the exhaust system, while it is unlikely that it will happen, there is still a chance they will run into a problem just like anything you modify from factory specs.

Bit if a grey zone here...I thought if toyota dealer/service installs TRD part(s) then you're fully covered under the vehicle's warranty, but if you do the install or via 3rd party then you're sol if something goes wrong with vehicle correlated to the mod (even if TRD, i.e. 2nd gen Trd supercharger install)?
