Regular cab regrets?

To you regular cab gents, do you regret not getting an access cab? Do you ever find yourself trying to stuff something behind the seats that you really don't want to put in the bed?

After looking at a couple of them, I told myself I would hold out for an AC, mainly because I want bucket seats. But I just found a reg cab with buckets and I might just go get it. I actually like the look of regular cabs quite a bit.

I'm coming from a regular cab '95 hardbody so I've been there, done that. It sure would be nice to have the extra room of an AC. The buckets would be an upgrade from my bench seat, at least...

I'm under 6 feet, so not worried about feeling cramped, just the storage capacity...

Trying to make a quick decision and your opinions will help. The price is right and I know it will be gone soon!

 

This is the first pickup Ive owned, and I didnt even consider the regular cab as an option. Im always putting things inside the cab that I wouldnt want in the bed. Dufflebag of clothes for the weekend, ski equipment (everything you need except the skis). I keep a shovel, washer fluid, roadside emergency kit, rope, chains etc in the access cab. Also makes grocery shopping easier, if its raining.

I also like the Reg Cab look, I had an access cab truck before my regular cab Tacoma, the only thing I miss about an access cab is that I was able to sleep in the truck early in the morning at College and there is really no way to sleep on the regular cab bench seat. I don't really miss the space, books and other crap fits perfectly under the seat and I have a tonneau cover in case I'm carrying something big enough that I can't fit inside.

If you are worried about space you can always go for a hard tonneau cover, there are a few to choose from.

 

I Love the regular cab but I should have got the 4x4 version with the bucket seats and 6 lug. Other then that I love the Regular Cab, it fits my needs and I don't feel obligated to haul more people.

 

The extended cab would have been a nice option. And some more power for bigger tires would be nice too. but i love my regular cab and i love my short wheel base. I can alot of places big trucks huge trucks cant.

 

I love my reg cab. I recently put a cap on it, so the lack of dry storage is no issue for me. I'm coming from a reg cab Sierra long-bed, and was really looking for a smaller pickup, and the reg cab tacoma is just perfect.

 

I've got a regular cab and after swapping out the bench seat for some TRD bucket seats, there is plenty of room to stick stuff back there.

My previous truck was a single cab ranger, so I might just be used to it.

The truck does have a tonneau cover already, so that's good. I have a cap on my Nissan, so I usually throw stuff back there and lock it up. But sometimes that's less than ideal as it can slide around (even with a rubber bed mat) and access to the front of the bed with a cap is a pain in the arse.

I thought maybe I could put a metal bed divider in back near the tailgate and make a small space for groceries, fragile items, etc. Also maybe one of those swing-out toolboxes that tuck in behind the wheel well at the back for my jumper cables, etc.

I'd mainly use the truck for bikes & camping gear. I know that sometimes it would be nice to have gear locked up in the cab though...

Decisions, decisions...

 

I have my hi lift jack, and ax mounted on the cab's back wall, then on one side I can fit 2 duffles one with recovery gear and the other with tools. On the other side I can fit my 150pc craftsman socket set, tire iron, rope tarp, bed net and small backpack. Then plenty of room in the center for another bag and a small cooler where most people would have a center console.

If it's already got a tonneu cover, then definitely go for it!

 

Access cab all the way for me. Gym bag, jacket, all kinds of stuff that I need can be locked in the cab. IMO if you're going to be buying toolboxes, making dividers, etc...you should just go for the access cab.

 

i wish i had the short wheel base of the reg. cab but other than that i love having the storage area in my A/C. reg cabs do look better tho IMO, but i like my V6 and cargo room. too bad they dont make an A/C with a short bed...

 

I think it would sell very well.

I went from a reg cab ranger to an access cab Tacoma. If you have a locking tonneau or cap, the only thing you really lose with the reg cab is sleeping space.

they did it as a concept...and it has a V8. sweet....

 

i have a 4x4 reg cab with a top..i like that the truck feels compact. i just wish there was a v6 option.

 

That sounds like a pretty good amount of stuff. There is no way all of that would fit in my Nissan.

Seems like those that have the reg cabs like 'em, I haven't seen any real complaints from actual owners yet..

Either way would be an upgrade over what I have now. I think I may call the dealer and see what he can do on price.

FYI, it's a 2007 Toyota certified SR5 prerunner with 17k miles for $14900. Hope to get a bit lower...

 

reg looks better imo... i have the access cab, i just like the xtra space.
i never understood the new 4 door concept... takes away from being a pickup imo.

my buddy has a reg cab and i cant stand it... i get tired of having to hold everything as the passenger in my lap whenever we go out.

That is definitely a negative. Also a negative is when you have to move your "mobile office supplies" (i.e. old receipts, biscuit wrappers, drink containers, clothes, etc.) from the passenger floorboard when you actually have a passenger. But maybe that's a personal issue, heheh...

 

i've gone from an 89 regular cab 2.4l to 98 access cab 2.7 L and just bought an 08 4.0l Access cab all 4x4 trucks. never EVER going back to the regular cab. I love having my archery equipment inside the truck and tons of other stuff. It's all preference... One thing has stayed constant for the last 17 years - TOYOTA!
