as a tech, i have never ever done or heard of any place "voiding" warranties for aftermarket parts. its an old myth.
if the part caused a component to fail, then we can decline covering the failed part.
modifications are OK unless they cause something to fail.
    examples:
the O2 sensor failed because it was installed in an aftermarket manifold.
that one is likely to get some attention.. depends how smart the tech is.. if he wants to get paid, and toyota will never know about the headers, then he will probably push it through.
Brake caliper seized with aftermarket pads and rotors installed.... probably will get declined due to potential for installation error by someone not trained to do it properly.
then again, slap the OEM stuff back on for a day and take it in, then the dealer is unaware of the mods that may or may not have caused a component to fail.

remember this though, warranty does not cover DAMAGE. if the parking brake cable hung up on something and locked up the brakes, thats damage. if you back into the garage door and bump the blind spot monitor out of position, thats on you, not toyota.

Yeah, the whole vehicle doesn't really get "voided". But individual systems will no longer carry a warranty based on modifications. Example: tuners/programmers will void engine and transmission warranty, lift kit voids suspension warranty

I agree that there is always an extremely small chance anything could happen, but I would be blown away if you can find an example of a cat back causing major failure to a vehicle APART from a completely incorrect installation.

But then again the one member had his warranty voided for "sand in the gas tank" which lo and behold same problem occurred after he had to use his insurance to pay for Toyota to fix the vehicle. So yes, anything is possible.

One of the reasons for prefering the TRD cat back is because of the warranty considerations but after reading the various replys I feel more comfortable with a quality aftermarket system. I found the Borla cat back for the gen3 on Amazon for $543 and it sure looks a lot like the TRD version. There have been some who claim that the TRD is just a rebadged Borla but I have not found any documentation for that claim. Anyone who could provide that would be greatly appreciated.

Find a quality muffler shop and have one made with a Vibrant StreetPower muffler in your choice of style for half that price. And any engine can benefit from a better flowing exhaust, to whomever said the engine is to small to benefit. You wont turn it into a racetruck but it will benefit.
