Anyone ever drive a 1965 Chevy Impala automatic..??? A 283 V8 with a TWO speed tranny... remember those days... Maybe some of the guys that don't like all that shifting should get one of those.... 0 to 60 MPH in first gear...then goes into second..... Anyone that old around here...??? :D:canada:

What I have personally came around to considering is leasing one.

I normally don't lease as it can be a losing proposition, but with this model it may work out.

My reasoning is that Tacomas have traditionally strong resale, and with a lease you know exactly what the residual is going to be.

That way in 3 years, you can either walk away and get one of the new rigs on the market by then (Ranger, Jeep pickup, redesigned Nissan) or Toyota will have stepped up their game in the face of increased competition and you can get a new, improved Tacoma.

In GA, leases have a special "Screw You" tax (TAVT) that impacts leases very hard.

Waiting to see what can be worked out on that end.

I'm the original owner on my '98 Tacoma. My original plan was to buy a new truck in 2008 (Pay 5, drive 5), but I got married so my new truck buying plan got extended. 20 years '98-'18 now but you're saying I should wait until 2028?

I was joking as gen 3 will be from 2016 to 2026, 10 years same as gen 2 was 2005 to 2015.

I know what you were saying. I was just being funny about having to wait another decade to buy a new truck.

    Sorry for derailing the thread...

My build date was 7/8 I have two zerks on the front drive shaft, and none on the rear.
You will have to remove a small heat shield to properly get to one of the two front ones. It's a breeze

Double check the rear drive shaft... the zerks are on the end of the U joints..NOT... in the "crotch" like the front ones... You've got 'em....just feel all around your U joints... all three were pointing upward when you looked, I bet... and U looked for the "crotch" type... They are on the END of the U joints... if you can't see 'em ... feel... they R there... GaranF'nteed...!!!!
No need to remove heat shield either... go in from driver's side on both of them.... twist shaft to get them pointing to driver's side and slightly upward..!! Good luck my friend..:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Is it sad that I share virtually 80% of all Taco issues, yet I feel somehow blessed that at 23k miles I don't have a rear end howl or bad leafs?..... WOW. LUCKY ME!

This is the thing that gets to me the most. I've had shitboxes in the past. I've had 200K+ mileage hondas and old bimmers. I've driven so many different vehicles in my life and I have NEVER had as many problems, or as severe of problems, as I have had with this truck. AND ITS A BRAND NEW TOYOTA FUCKING TACOMA.

The dealership, corporate, and even people on this forum are telling me that its normal for my brake pedal to pulsate. WHAT IN THE FUCK? Thats NOT normal brake pedal behavior on ANY vehicle I have ever driven. Give me a fucking break.

Thats interesting. I'm wondering if its just enough weight to correct shitty driveline angles? My hypothesis is that the diff howl, the rumble strip while braking, and the RPM vibrations are all related to screwed up driveline angles.

I don't have it on my taco, but it was there from the get-go on my Scion and Subaru (2/3 of my last vehicles). I just assumed it was normal ABS stuff. Guess I just don't pay that much attention or it wasn't as extreme as yours is.

If I were in your position, knowing what I know now, I would NOT buy this truck. If I were you I would hold out to see if Toyota actually fixes the issues. Maybe by that time you'll have some other options to choose from (ie Ranger, Jeep, or Dakota).

    UPDATE:

Got the truck back a few minutes ago. Replaced differential in the back of truck STILL HOWLING LOL. Leaf springs are still extremely noisy as if they didn't clean them at all. I love this truck.

Make a Home Depot run and grab a few bags of mulch or something.

That ought to equal the weight of a topper and you can see if the noise diminishes driving the exact same path you took there and back.
