Swisha loop,Quebec

Hey all my buddy @Chux and I are heading up to Canada from New Jersey in September to travel the swisha loop. It starts in Cantley Quebec and is a loop that covers approximately 800km of logging roads and trails. We have emailed graveltravel and aquired a gps track and some good information. But it is never a bad idea to have more info. So I was just wondering if anyone local or not so local has done the loop and had any tips or anything they would like to share. Any and all info is appreciated!

I believe that it is more for motorcycles. Have you inquired about the feasibility of using a truck?

 

@taczilla yes I have done research and it is doable with trucks. Some sections are tight and there will most likely be brush rubbing your truck so it's not recommended it your worried about small scuffs. But that is only a few sections. Most of the loop is retired logging roads, graded gravel roads and class 4/5 roads

 

Been looking into this as well. Best bet would be to go to expedition portal and check in the Canada section. I know there are some French forums but that doesn't help your out (unless you know French). Been my biggest issue, as I can't find any locals who have done it. I have heard it is doable as you mentioned. Bring fuel as I have read that stops can be far. Looking forward to feedback!

 

Yea we seem to have a pretty good grasp of what we're getting into. We sourced a few tracks from other forums so we're gonna give it a shot. Worst case scenario we turn back and head home. It will still be a great adventure. 3 of us are meeting up Thursday night then heading north Friday morning. Should get to Cantley QC Friday afternoon and plan to get some of the loop in before sundown. I'll definitely report back either way but hopefully with knowledge and pictures and not a sad story about returning home.

 

Can't wait. I have some sights planned out for my trip out there next year.

Geographically I don't know where the official swisha loop is but if these are close by,I was hoping to make a stop for sure.

Definitely have to get on to gravel travel and see what's up. Haven't gotten that far.

I can say definitly bring extra gas. Even with my four banger I needed an extra five gallons. I had 10 but 15 would have been more comfortable. Or friend Josh was on 35's with a double can long bed and he used about 11-12 extra gallons. Also it would be a very good idea to inform someone back home where your going and what your track will be. There were definitly a lot of factors that could have turn our routine trip into a very dangerous situation. We were way far away from anything so simply walking to town for help was out of the question lol.

In terms of navigation was the gravel travel info/maps sufficient? Did it bring you anywhere sketchy?

Washout are pretty hard to know about. If they had another option that's always better. Looks like an awesome adventure.

 

The graveltravel was accurate. I also had a gps track on my maps.me app I got off a Canadian forum but it was identical. There were a few spots where you could go left of right and the trail split then got back together. The one split we got to a bridge that was out so we turned back and went the other way. The washout was on the main trail. And at that point we were past the point of turning around because of fuel range so we were forced to winch boulders out of the way and dig a path up the other side. Big thanks to winches and treds! Took us about an hour to make a plan and get through. I can imagine how long it would take without the winches and treds
