Well, it's time to buy one of those mobile homes that fit in your bed, with the sleeping quarters hanging over the top, so no more rust that way. ;)

Original owner. Nothing hauled on roof. That's what is so weird...mostly the center valley and the paint is so totally destroyed, rust is bubbling up. I live in California...I've only seen snow a handful of times and never had rust like this.

Either that, or i was considering taking it somewhere and getting a sunroof installed. Eliminate some of the rust for good that way lol

Yours kind of makes me wonder if the robotic spray painting arm kind of hiccuped and by doing so missed the primer streak down the center.....wierd.

Better yet remove all the cancerous rust and make your Tacoma a convertible, with a cloth cover + roll bar too. :burnrubber:

I started reading the transcript, but had to stop because I need a mode of transportation. It was funny reading it till I realized I go over 65 MPH in my Tacoma....sad and scary. :(

Hahah. But then Toyota just buys you a new frame. Never heard of them buying new roofs.

True, if your frame perforates within "their time frame", if not you have no warranty extension, but I agree both circumstances are unacceptable.

I live in southern AZ and see Tacoma's with this problem all the time. The UV rays from the sun absolutely destroy hood and roof paint within a few years of being unprotected. Mine is a 2011 and I park in the garage as much as possible and clear coat is starting to look hazy on the roof. I wish I would have started using a sealant since it was new but just started last year. Hope it's not too late. I plan on sanding and buffing the shit out of it when summer is over to see if the problem gets any better.

Crazy thing is I also have a 2001 xterra that sits outside 24/7 that i don't give two poops about and it's not as bad as my taco.

Have you ever seen this happen to a white colored tacoma? I was thinking the white color would reflect some of the UV and not absorb it all.

They should make one of those silver windshield visors for the top and hood.

I think the problem is easily preventable if you use some kind of sealant at least every 3-4 months. I guess I was hoping the paint on the taco would be as good as the paint on my xterra (I was wrong)

Note to new taco owners: Wash and seal regularly. Especially if you live in southern AZ (aka hell)

I agree that the use of a sealant regularly is preventative maintenance and can only help, but you shouldn't have it rusting so badly after only 5 years, like you shouldn't have frame perforations after only 5 years up north too.

Mine has no rust as of now but it is garaged during the summer time. I'm just hoping I can sand the faded clear coat and buff it out then seal the poop out of it every month or two
