Ok, lets hear it, need to convince the wife that we need more than just an fx4, she says why? Im here for moral support on this difficult matter, and also for factual information. For towing reasons I have to keep my fix or repair daily truck. Truth is I love the look of the Taco. Maybe I can just stay a closet taco lover. I DONT KNOW!!!!! help please

I'll make this easy. If you have a 2014 FX4, keep it. If you have a 2015 or newer, go Taco.

Aluminum is for engine blocks and soda cans.

Smaller set of wheels, easier to park, tell her she'll look great driving it too!

Tacos are terrible for toting around kids unless they are out of car seats. If so just put the Taco in the driveway and let her be mad till she drives it

How come you want the Taco that is the most important question.

Otherwise you are going to get the Tacoma, realize it is just ok, then your wife is going to say "I told you so" and you'll never live it down.

I should clarify what I mean is that it won't do anything better than the Ford. You have two vehicles (and one is a truck) already so no need for a "backup" vehicle. Actually the 3rd gen might do one thing better than the FX4 and that is off road. It can take narrower trails and these trucks do feel really good off road. But if you want a dedicated off road vehicle you can get one for a lot cheaper that you won't have to justify really beating up and have some fun in.

How about a compromise. Since you want to keep the Fx4 and she doesn't want a taco, how about a 4Runner ? I think they look as cool as a taco and are probably just as capabil....dunno

And better for family too. As much as we all hate minivans. When it comes to a great family moving car nothing really beats them. They're cheap and can move 7 people.

That said they are probably the ugliest things out there and just scream suburban family 'my kids are special' I'd say go with a 4runner. I'd rather never own a minivan and if I'm ever in that spot needing the 7 passenger seating etc I'd get a 4runner.

thread makes no sense, want to replace minivan with a tacoma? Of course she doesn't want it, why the need for two trucks?

Just do what I did man, go to the dealership and buy it without her knowing!! Deal with the aftermath later, because it will be worth it. My wife was pissed but now she loves my Taco!! Best decision ever.

Disclaimer: I accept no responsibility for how pissed your wife would be if you really did this, my wife is just awesome and doesn't give a shit about cars/trucks anyways so I lucked out in that department!

The 4runner.... il admit I like it and my wife really likes it too and I have no reason for liking the Taco more. That taco just looks awesome to me.

I dont do harcore off-roading , but I do enough to warant a 4x4, my fx4 is more than capable of doing what I need it to as is. That being said it needs a level as I have bumped the skids a few times. This truck is my hunting trailering truck.

One last thing, it has to be manual....the 4runner available with a stick?

Not sure if the new ones are manual. But they're great off road for mild stuff.
