I have a nocking noise coming from either the front strut or the steering rack?

When I drive over bumps in the road or when i'm driving down a dirt road with pot holes my truck sounds like the front drivers strut and spring are loose. I put my truck on jack stands and check everything. nothing seems loose? anyone have any ideas? Has anyone had this problem before.

 

i have the same thing. i read somewhere that it is the sway bar bushings or somethin to do with the swaybar. i have not gone under there and looked at it yet though

 

If its just a "knocking,bumping noise" when you hit bumps in the road but your steering & control feel fine its probably your front stabilizer bushings worn out... pretty cheap...pretty easy fix too.....

 

Yeah my steering and control is perfectly fine, its just a knocking or kluncking noise when i hit bumps in the road. I'll check the stabilizer bushings. hopefully its as easy as just that. thanks.

That will solve it even tho it only happens when the driver side hits a bump? i have the exact same problem!!!

 

sounds like it could be ball joints also

 

even if the steering isnt sloppy and the suspension cycles fine? i mean besides the clunk

 

ball joints!, lift the front of the jack and put it on jackstands, with the tire completely off the ground, try to move the tire back and forth, as in hands at 3 and 9 and twisting (not turning) the wheel, if there is any play it is ball joints.

if it is moving, loosen the boot on the end of the steering rack to check the inner ones, get someone to twist the wheel as you watch for play.

 

yeah even with no sloppy steering it still probably is a ball joint

Its not the ball joints they seem pretty tight. no play at all. I ordered the steering rack bushings, I'll let you guys know after i install the bushing if that solves the problem.

 

i think i have the same problem. my truck makes a knocking noise when i go offroading or when i turn left. i went to the dealer and they said it was the upper control arm hitting the strut. so i went home and jacked it up myself and saw that the control arm does hit but i do not think thats what makes the noise.
