A vast majority of us have not experienced the problems that you often read about on here. Pick what you like & what's best for you. You don't need to base your decision on what you read on this forum.

I recently bought a 16 taco and was honestly bummed out when I saw a lot of the cool features Honda has to offer in their Ridgeline. That was until I did a little research.

The Ridgeline seemed to me to be more of a mini van with a bed. It falls short in any area a true truck owner would want a truck to perform - Off-road, towing, GVWR, etc.

That being said, it definitely fits a certain niche of people who really just want a truck bed for when they need it.

I think the question you should ask is whether you need the capabilities or world rather the comfort that the Honda offers. That's what seems to be the difference to me: capability vs comfort.

BTW, Your Ridgeline actually looks pretty good. Better than I thought they would from the website.

The vast majority, says the guy who just picked up his 17...bahaha. Love all these claims. There are quite a few who have had a least one issue, small or little from restarting entunes, howling diffs, low transmission fluid, ungreased zerks and whistling lower control arms, more than I ever saw while owning 3 previous 2nd gens and being a member here for 5 years.

Tacoma is definitely a more off-road capable, towing, manly pickup. There is a certain appeal to owning a body on frame, uncompromising truck with capabilities (that most people will not use). I know a doctor who bought a TRD Off-Road because of it's capabilities and looks. When I asked him if he'd ever use the crawl control or go off-roading he said "No, but it sure look like I can (with a wink)" Nevertheless, it sounds like you had your reasons for purchasing the Ridgeline and I gotta admit Honda did a pretty good job with it the second time around. I don't much care for the basic looks but the Black version looks bad-ass. I like your wheels. Any more pics of your Ridgeline?

I also need the key. When I go surfing I put the metal key in my wetsuit. Not sure if that electric crap would survive the salt water.

    None...yet!
I traded in a 2015 Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel, talk about too damn big!

So far in 1 month and 1500+ miles my Tacoma has been 100%. No vibrations, no hood problems, greased zerks, full transmission, 21+ MPG's, no whistles howls grunts or groans, smooth shifting, no gear hunting.

It really comes down to if you love the way it looks and you want one, get one. The 3rd gens ARE GREAT TRUCKS, and probably why there is so much whining about them here. I have owned a 1989, 1993 and 2003, the 2016 is the best Tacoma of the bunch. (But I wish I still had the 1989, that was the best, period.)

The Tacoma is our everything truck. Daily driver, off road camper, photo expedition vehicle. It does it all.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
The irony is if your truck is a TRD Offroad and it's stock I'm betting your wife drives it with your testicles on the passenger seat.

You must have missed that I traded in a 16 for the 17. I haven't had any problems with either. On every Toyota with entunes I had before the 16' I had issues with it rebooting. Pretty much every vehicle will have a minor problem especially the 1st year in a redesign. But it's a hand full of people that do most of the bitching on here.

If you DO trade don't get the sport. Get the TRD OR. Take the sport and OR on test drives over a rough road or speedbumps. The sport rides like a dump truck and the OR rides like butter. Also get a 4x4 so we don't see you here 6 months later talking about how much money you lost on trade because you regretted not getting the 4x4 and now you're going to trade in for one.:D

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^...This ........ FWIW ... As a previous owner of a Ridgeline and maybe 10-12 Toyota trucks ... keep the Ridgeline unless you just want that "truck like ride" that a Tacoma gives you.

Personally, I loved the Ridgeline, but it was too big and I like the feel of the Tacoma better.

In reality, the Tacoma is getting too big for my needs too.

I have just over 1000 miles and getting 17.1 about 95% of driving is in town in traffic to work. I was getting 16.7 in my F150 which was a 3.5 ecoboost crew cab lariat FX4 model. So needless to say the MPG isnt what I expected so far. Interesting about the off road riding better..... like the painted flares and hood on the sport, but I will drive the off road. Want to drive the TRD PRO..... I do have the AWD Ridge and years back I had a 2006 gen1 ridge and the AWD works like a charm in the snow and ice up around flagstaff/snowbowl. Made me look like i knew what I was doing LOL. When my 2006 was 8 years old I traded for the RAM (mistake, but thats another story) but I got a 2wd RAM Sport, wissed having the AWD/4WD and the mileage SUCKED with the Hemi. Traded for the F150 after a test drive. Never owned a Ford before in my life but that F150 was a nice truck and FAST. It was just too damn big for my garage and a pain in the ass to park. Just not practical, I like the midsize truck for what I use a "truck" for. Thanks once again and ask away for any info on the ridge.

My commute recently changed for work from 80% town driving to 90% freeway (60-65mph) mpg jumped from 18.5 avg to about 21.5 avg. Pretty big improvement. Still sucks on interstate though...19 to 20 max doing interstate speed limit 75mph here in az

I actually really like the way the OP's Ridgeline looks. Unfortunately, my parents just purchased a 2016 Pilot - and I hate the way it rides so rough. I can't imagine the ride in the Ridgeline is much better. I do prefer the truck ride of the Taco over the Ridge.

All good advice above. My .02 is to road test several different tacomas to compare with what you drive now. My OR rides like a truck, which is what I want. Yours actually looks pretty good, and meets your needs so far, so really think hard about what you want/need. Make sure a taco would be comfortable and something you would want to drive every day. I love my truck, despite some minor issues, most have been resolved and currently waiting on back ordered parts to fix a remaining issue, but would buy this truck all over again. I'm gonna start some mods when my wallet recovers. Lol. You'll probably want to go off-road and get in the poorhouse with mods if you buy a taco!
Just want you to be happy with whatever you choose to drive!
