Some of the ignorant comments get me ticked, I know I should just let them drink their punch, but come on. This forum used to be about helping each other out, talking about truck stuff and sweet mods, the 3rd gen section has become some angry ass witch hunt, trump vs hillary political "we're right", "they're liars and wrong" section. I don't even see the point in these threads as they only stir the pot. You never saw this shit in the 2nd gen section, you posted a thread if you had a problem, took some sweet pictures, did a mod, did a how too or had a question about a lift, etc., this shit is just stupid and the ignorance of some people....ERRRRRR. End rant.

I only have one issue with mine, that I know the reprogram would fix. But I cant get my local dealer to perform the update because it doesnt apply to my VIN. Still love my truck though, just cant use the cruise control.

almost a year in now, the only "issue" with mine is the vibe in the wheel and
foot rest area which is most likely engine mounts. The wheel, I guess I've become
used to it, no biggie now and the foot rest, I have a piece of foam under the
all weather mats in that spot and barely, if at all, notice it. Love the truck.

I legitimately posted the thread to get a feel for how many people have issues, not to stir the pot. I have noticed the tug of war over third gens your mention and it makes me wonder (as someone with 15k on his taco) why I haven't had any issues. I just wanted to know if the people reporting problems were a loud minority, or if I was one of the lucky few.

There are some that are outspoken about it and on here, then there's others who chime in they've had a problem when asked, but not much else. If we made a poll thread and sticked it something like "how many have had at least on small or big problem with their 2016" and then added all the issues reported as voting options, I bet almost everyone reports at least one, yes some here don't have any, some probably have one and just don't know or realize (i.e. low fluid, or the howl (its faint))

Nope, love my 3rd! My only issue was the transmission TSB. It shifts great now and I can actually use cruise. I love all the comforts the Taco now offers like heated seats and moon roof! I've probably had eight different Tacos (all generations) and this is my favorite! However, I did like the low end torque of the 4.0.

I'm not going to try to give BS percentages and tell you everyone has issues or 99% of the people don't have issues.

I have a few of the issues mentioned here on this site. I knew about them before I bought my Tacoma and sure enough mine had some of the issues mentioned on the board. That's either really bad luck or the issues are actually a little more widespread.

I've only so far had one major component issue and that is the rear differential howling, which is being replaced next week. And yes, those of us that have major issues like squeaky leafs or howling differentials, or slipping transmissions, etc etc remain vocal about them so other people can make educated decisions when buying their vehicle. It is good to know what to look for isn't it? Or to be able to spot or check an issue early before your warranty runs out?

But also the reality is that a majority of the issues are more small annoyances than anything. Some dash rattles here and there, hood vibrating, wind noise. Some people may never even notice them if they are there and it is entirely possible a lot of people don't have issues.

A lot of people don't use online forums. If they have an issue they will keep going back to the dealer or maybe research and never post anything and/or trade it in.

Nobody knows for sure how many people have issues and how many dont. It should be used as an educated guide of what can happen or typical problems showing up and nothing more.

Exactly and it dosent help any body downplaying issues or pretending they don't exist. But neither does it help always whining about them. I'm in the same boat as you, hesitated moving from my 15 to a 16, looked real hard for all the issues, only had the howling control arms which I could care less, fixed myself with the TSB part, and now the rear diff which developed 5k in, this irritates me as I have basic wrench skills but not enough to start messing with a diff and its definitely not normal, is it terrible no, but I paid a lot for another Tacoma because of the reliability, and a howling diff at 5k is worrisome. Really hope Toyota addresses this. I think a lot probably have it and don't realize it, the more educated people are the more likely to address with Toyota and then the more likely we get a solution. Think the frame debacle for 2nd and 1st gens.

Little tree air fresheners. Clazzio black leather seat covers.
Only issues that I've had is the low transmission fluid, water in the rear license plate lights and that it is! Nothing to overly bitch about or to talk bad on the truck.
I did get the TSB for the transmission and it did solve the delay from R to D. But I've never had the crazy shifting or shitty fuel economy that mostly everyone bitches about. Absolutely love my 16' TRD Off-road

So far (~4K miles) I still am enjoying my truck. Has it been 100% issue free? No; I had the "low lube" in the u-joint issue (I personally don't think this is a huge short term issue as the u-joints did have some lube in them from the supplier but long term maybe?). Since I am 100 miles from my dealer I lubed them myself, but I did not mention this at my 5K/6month "check -up"; my bad. I also have the resonating from the LCAs, I bought the plugs myself and will just stick them in as I do not want a tech driving my truck to check for the issue.

When I first brought it home I checked all the fluids myself and everything was fine. I also checked the torque on the u-bolts and again, they were fine as well. Do I believe there are issues with the trans and rear end - absolutely. The trans does not "keep me up at night" since I have a manual but the rear end howl sure does. I have a company vehicle to run to work during the week so I do not put the miles on the truck that I planned to. My biggest concern is that the rear end will become an issue after the warranty period has expired and then I am out for the repair. At this point mine is not exhibiting any issues but I am aware of it and keep listening for them. My hope is that Toyota will recognize this as an issue find the root cause and distribute a corrective action (i.e. recall). Perhaps that is very wishful thinking.

Overall, my Tacoma has had less issues than any other new vehicle I have purchased, though I had not bought a new vehicle since 1998. My only real trouble free ones have been a CRX and an RSX that I bought with 100K on the clock already. So if those had issues they had already been resolved.

Do I still read the so called "b!tching" threads? Yes I do, if there are issues I want to know about them and be able to recognize and look/listen for them. I don't pay attention to the ones on rusting brake drums or orange peel paint on the rocker panels at I think these are mainly trolls. Nor, do I read the ones on the transmission as they don't apply to me, but, I bet there is a large number of people that had the shifting/low fluid issue and learned on this forum that was at least some action you could take to help alleviate it. Did the fix work? I cannot make that judgment, but if I had an automatic I would pay attention to the threads.

seems the life cycle of every forum. but i am surprised at how young this 3rd gen forum is and all the crap that is usually seen later in the forum's life when second owners, etc, come pouring in. my last vechicle was a limited run and i was with that forum from day one. the first 5 years was rich with helpful assistance, research, and all kinds of sharing among owners. after about 5 years it became crazy, and nobody new had any interest in figuring anything out, they just wanted to tap on or even throw crap at the OG's who were quite tired of the same bitching and questions over and over with no effort from new members.

Yep its been going that way, take a look in the 2nd gen section, went from helpful sharing of knowledge, to lazy people starting a thread "how do I lift my truck" "what size tires" every day. Sad.

Uh oh... one of these threads again.

I don't even have my Tacoma yet, but I hope to be among the many who have no issues.
However those who post about problems they are having in a constructive way serve an important function here at TW!
At the same time those who simply post about how much they love their truck and enjoy it also serve to help the community.

Here is why this subject gets blown out of proportion:

FAIL: My truck is having XYZ problem therefore Toyota is a worthless company and everybody who bought this truck is an idiot!
FAIL: My truck is greatest truck evar and all you crybabies can STFU and eat a fat one!

Neither of these things are very helpful and only serve to fan the flames.

If everyone just stopped for a moment before posting and agreed to follow Wheatons's Law we would have less of these threads.
    e2c_10b7c77b2b7980fe61413b966357af3f0731fcf7.jpg
On the Flip Side if everyone followed this law at all times TW and the Internet in general would be a far less inserting place.

    So what's my point?
The Natural state of the internet is chaos... just accept it. (Or become a MOD and don't!)
This post serves no purpose other than to add to it. ;)

Been on TW for a while. I haven't really been much of a poster more of an observer. That being said, I do recall a time back in 2007 when there was a debate on what was the better truck. Gen 1 or Gen 2.
There are days I wish I had my 95, my 93, my 87(not a "Tacoma").
They were all good in their own ways. My 06 has been great except for a rusted frame, stretched timing belt and constant ticking from day one......
