Nice truck. I had a pair of the Apex fogs, too. I like the design, but no matter how tight I had them, they pointed too far out to the sides. Personal preference maybe.

    Thanks!

I agree, they do point out to the sides a little too much. I have some adjusting to do... somehow.

    nothing cool
Felt my first earthquake in my 2nd Gen Tacoma this morning. Sitting in the driveway at 7am and my truck started shaking. I seriously thought my truck was acting wrong. Turned out is was a quake from Oklahoma that shook all the way up here to KC.

Greased all 5 driveshaft points. Then washed and waxed it before it starts heating up outside. I usually just go through the laser wash, but damn it comes out so much cleaner by hand then hand drying.IMG_20160903_102635547_HDR.jpg

Thank you for your time to reply!

Yes, I have not changed from dino to synthetic.

I have 5100's all around, only the front are height adjustable and mine are set at 0.85" (the lowest 'raise' above stock). I don't notice any different 'feel', it's all good.

The rear height is adjustable with Firestine Ride Rite Air Bags. Daily running set at 15 psi, and for heavy loads, up to 35 psi. The back really moves up easily with just a little air added.

I have 265/75-16 Hankook Dynapro ATM tires (about 1" taller than stock). They did not rub ever, even before the front Bilsteins were added. Yes, the odometer slowed down a little (making gas mileage appear worse), but I take that into consideration. About every 40 true miles, my odometer will show 39 miles. I get a fill up usually by 240 miles (but adjust that to 246 miles for calculating). That only bumps the MPG number by about 1/4 mpg.

A fill up a couple weeks ago (I was down to the E line on the gauge), the Tacoma took 18.06 gallons and my trip odometer (zeroed at the previous fill up) was at 221.4 miles.

    Let's do the math:
221.4/18.06 = 12.25 MPG (my worst daily driving recording this year).
To add for the bigger tires and slow odometer, would be to add 5.5 miles. so:
    226.9/18.06 = 12.56 MPG

Maybe it was just a super hot week? The gas is Costco 87 octane. It isn't any different when I use Shell gas, and Premium on a road trip once actually dropped the mileage a tiny bit.

Now, it is more typical that I get 14-15 MPG on daily driving, but historically it once was 15-16... and that would be my goal!

On the highway, 17-18 was the original usual MPG, and a rare 19-20.5 a couple times.

    Thank you for your thoughts!

Just got through changing the trans and transfer case oil in my 2012 six speed. Why didn't Toyota think about where the transmission filler plug is BEFORE they ran the front drive shaft?

Also, top tip - make sure the washer on the DRAIN plug is on the bolt BEFORE you start refilling the transfer case. I did learn that my thumb is the same size as the drain hole though. Glad I ordered an extra quart of the Redline synthetic gear oil. That same in handy.

Finally, I was hoping that when they designed and manufactured synthetic gear oil, they would design it to smell better then Dino oil. No such luck.

Well, job now done. Will probably extend the next change for 50k miles as the synthetic should last longer.

Next job, front and rear diffs to synthetic and the whole truck will be changed over.

I'm doing the same thing right now both diffs transfer case engine and doing spark plugs. Smells like shit but worth it

Installed TRD catback, my frame plug kit (to try and make this frame last a little longer than the last one), and the passenger side windshield cowl (that the windshield guy mangled during the last install).

Looking at my old exhaust laying on the garage floor, a couple of thoughts occurred to me: One, that it was due to be replaced, but could have maybe gotten another year out of it (it's 11 years old). And two, that the exhaust outlasted my frame by at least a year.

Also, while I'm here, I installed a new set of black factory tube steps (I know, BOOOO tube steps) about a month ago. But I actually find them functional, and they do protect the under side of the truck. Especially since I don't normally run mudflaps.

TRD is one of their standard etchings, which I believe they will add for free. You can have them etch whatever you want, though. Just email or call and ask Joel (owner). He is a great guy.
