So I tried the whole bottle jack and torch method to get the bushings out of the LCAs....


Worked swell on the fronts but no joy with either rear.
They got burned out and now I guess I'll have to take a Sawzall to the outermost metal sleeve.

 

I've only done this with leaf springs and radius arms, but it may work for control arms too. I use a hacksaw to cut almost all the way thru, then use a hammer and punch to roll the metal sleeve in on itself next to the cut which usually will cause the sleeve to split at the hacksaw cut. The idea is to keep from hacking into the reusable part, in this case your LCA.

I tried on one rear and it didn't budget til the rubber caught fire and the bushing rippped. It had a cam sleeve in it though so i was waiting on either part to give. I'll try the others again tomorrow if you got a front one out. My dog is not doing well so I gave up and came back in to sit with her

I just saw that the whiteline bushings for the damn things are >$150 and then I don't know what to do for cam bolts

 

I don't know.... what I did wasn't too bad but I still have to get the outer sleeve out of the rears.

Flaming bushing rubber is much what I imagine napalm to be like. And it's a damn mess!

coworker came over needing a carb job done on his motorcycle so at least then i had a gas soaked rag to clean all that crap off my tools

 

I hate doing lower control arms... and you didnt get the outer sleeevs out?what bushings are u putting in?

fronts came out in their entirety easily.

rear outer sleeves are still in there.

Gramps I was asking about sound deadener.

She is getting old and developed some lumps that had to be biopsied. Waiting to hear back still but she has been a bit slow to recover from it all.

I got some energy bushings, but I like the oem or white line better. I bought new oem bolts

 

You just have to keep your wrists as close together as possible when you are "taken" and boom easy peasy

 

Sorry I should of said when you are being bound that key is to push em together
