It's a completely valid question and the decision isn't driven by economics. The wheeling I do is best described as exploring. I doubt I will ever tackle anything beyond a moderately rated trail and even then the skids are intended to be a fail safe in the event something doesn't go as planned. Given that and the potential move back to a corrosive environment aluminum seems to be the more appropriate choice.

I may roll with the OEM for a while in the interim, but it's a personal belief that I want my vehicle to have at least some degree of belly protection beyond a stamped sheet metal splash guard.

I think aluminum skids was the right choice for me. Price was only a bit more and I'm very happy with them

I'm heading out to Colorado on vacation in 2 weeks. Looking for a set of 265/75/16 AT's in good shape. Wheels are optional. Would also look at 17's. Let me know if anyone has any. Thanks guys :fingerscrossed:

I was curious so I did the math:

    Steel IFS 62 lbs $275
    Alum IFS 31 lbs $320
    50% weight $45 or 16.3% cost increase

    Steel mid 42 lbs $210
    Alum mid 23 lbs $245
    55% weight $35 or 16.6% cost increase

Going aluminum for skids isn't as much as I would have expected. But then I'm used to seeing bumper numbers, and they're more complex/thicker (I assume) and therefore more expensive. Still looking at 50% weight, but the cost increase jumps to 37%.

I'd be interested in those steels since I don't have anything right now, but just don't have the funds. :pout:

Do you have a price in mind for the mid skid? I don't have aluminum to trade but I could be interested in purchasing it depending on price.

Looking for a pair of TSB compatible add-a-leafs.
The add-a-leaf I had on the pre-TSB 3 leaf pack is too long to work with the new springs. I will trade or give these away if I find a compatible pair.

Help me fix my recall induced Cali-lean!

I was thinking $200 for the mid and $275 for the IFS. That saves $90 over what it would cost you shipped from Pelfreybilt plus they are primed and painted.
