If anyone is even thinking about going there, just do it. 5 star hotel is around $50. Awesome steak dinner is somewhere around $10 with drinks.

6 of us went to a 5 star restaurant, ate like motherfuckers, drank 2 bottles of wine and the bill was $150. Insane

In Durban we walked into a "clothing optional" bar. We were all shit faced, so we stayed for a while.

 

Definitely not. Crime rate is high. Just stay in a group and you're fine.

Also, you can rent a guide for the day. Basically a taxi driver that will wait for you and drive you around. Roughly $25 for the whole damn day

The only real annoying problem we had was little kids begging for money. It's like Mexico but worse. We were told to not give them anything, because if you give one a coin, he will tell everyone who to beg

Take a few cheapo zippo lighters with you if you go. The locals will love you. They can't get them easily and if they do, they are expensive.

We made friends with the "massage" parlor owner. We spent a few days hanging out with him and his wife. Learned a lot, and saw shit that isn't easily seen via tourism shops.

If you're interested in a Mercedes or bmw.... You can buy them there for next to nothing. I found out a little too late or I woulda had one shipped back. With the exchange rate as it is, a $40k car can be had for less than $10k. $2-3k to ship it back. It'll be right side drive, but they make kits to switch them around
