Those NHTSA complaints are adding up quickly, especially for the drivetrain (23 NHTSA complaints on drivetrain). You have to believe Toyota has this on their radar.

What is there to discuss, imperfect material possession built by imperfect people. Must really be awesome to be so perfect that you require a perfect vehicle to match that dripping perfection. Smitty, you are something else. I hope that Toyota gives you back your money and a nice parting gift of a middle finger. You are the kind of customer that makes it harder for normal people to get decent service because you wear the proprietor down with your entitled bullshit. Just give it a rest already.

Is there any way to see the NHTSA complaints?

    23 seems higher than normal

I do not think so, no. You'd think for $40k we'd get a better quality vehicle from Toyota. The trend seems to be pretty clear from 1st gen, 2nd and to 3rd gen there has been a pretty consistent increase in issues and quality with the initial model year release. 2009 seems to be the odd duck however

Did you turn traction control off??? Cause if you mash the gas with traction control on at a stop it is going to cut power to the engine to prevent you from putting a ton of power to the wheels at once (ok the Tacoma doesn't have a ton of power but you get what i mean).

23 out of maybe 120k sold in the past 12 months? I'd also be willing to bet that most of those are by people who are also TW members

Did you test drive? At all? I think you basically bought pants without trying them on.

Over half of these were for reverse to drive issues which were fixed with the tsb. Get over it dude. Old news and you are trying to stir the pot again...as usual.
Like this is a NHTSA safety issue, the radiocresetting ? Get real !

Probably. But what's interesting, at least to me, is a 3rd Gen owner posting 3rd party data indicating a possible negative trend for 3rd Gen trucks and asks for a simple discussion.

Second post outta the gate starts the shit show.

Don't get me wrong, I have my :popcorn:ready for the show, but it's amazing how many have such thin skin 'round here. If you don't have a 3rd Gen exhibiting issues, great. But if I did, I certainly would want as much evidence/data/thoughts around fixes and trends as I could get so I could get my $40K truck where I want it.

Preamble over. Let the show begin.

I think his comment was more directed to the fact that a lot of people here blow most of these issues and problems completely out of proportion. I'm not going to say that some don't have legitament cause for complaints. I too would be pissed having a few problems with my brand new truck and getting the run around from dealers or Toyota saying its normal when they are not. But I also think way too many people are blowing things out of proportion and making the issues bigger than what some of them really are.

I think most of us have had a vehicle that we hated, or had problems with. My philosophy is if you hate it that much, get rid of it. Sure you can cite that your going to lose your ass on trading it in, but you also have the option to sell privately and not lose as much. These trucks have great resale value, that's all in your favor for getting rid of it. Any good dealer would be willing to help you out a little if you told them you've had issues with your truck, kept coming in for issues and nothing really being resolved. I know our auto group would if you spoke to a few managers. Why waste time and energy bitching about something like that repeatedly. Just cut your losses short and move on. Also a good overnight test drive could of steered most of these buyer away I believe, a lot of these issues have been there since day 1

Yeah I get that. I got no beef with @smitty99 , hey its a free country for now, but the regulars on here see a pattern with most of his post. It's kinda like when your wife is constantly nagging about the same shit.

Given his experience with his truck, I'd be bitter as a fk too. I'd a traded that bitch long ago. But c'mon man, go play with the kids, tickle the wife (or other), get drunk, or post on a GM forum. You'd be much more welcome there.

@smitty99 , no ill will towards you, I genuinely want you to be happy.

Welcome to the wonders of throttle by wire! It's a great tool for car companies to fuck around with and give their car all sorts of fun properties.

Back in the day they would add extra throttle to make you think the car was "sporty!" because you were getting 75%-ish throttle when you only applied about 66%...

Now that the EPA is up everyone's ass, they add a huge damper to the throttle input to "smooth out" your inputs and make you a more efficient, environmentally conscious driver!

Also here's a howler from the car complaints site:
Do ho ho, man Toyota is really sleeping on the job here!

Its fine. You would go nuts if you drove in a big diesel with torque management. No one will get hurt, if they do its your fault.
