    Question do you guys just push the pistons back in install pads call it a day or bleed everything out when finished as I have heard people doing both?

    I remove the master cylinder cap and push the pistons back in. Replace the cap, start the truck, pump the brakes until they engage, then double check fluid levels. Never had to do a complete flush for pads.

    I use Autozone's free tool loan program a lot. They have a caliper press hand tool that will do the job. Nice unit too.

    Basically you buy the rental unit. When finished, simply return it with your receipt for full refund.

    Great video. I just had my truck at the dealer to replace the leaf springs (recall issue) and had them do the front brakes as well. I could have saved a boat load by doing it myself with this video.

    I received my Toyota parts today for rebuilding my front disk brakes. I ordered the anti-rattle shim kit with the pads. The kit contains the thicker shims with a rubber backing. It is obvious how those are installed onto the back of the pads.

    However, the kit also contained shims as well. What is the purpose of the shims? The factory replacement instructions (and diagrams) do not show the shims, only the thicker shim with the rubber backing.

    Are these shims used on different model years where shimming is part of the repair/installation processes?

    What are most of you using for brake grease? I know my wife's 2007 Rav4 FSM specifically calls for "Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease", but I haven't seen the FSM for my Tacoma yet.

    I used this thread toady to change my pads and rotors. The 1 thing I want to add is I had a difficult time removing the rotor. Beat the first one for a while and it never broke loose. Ended up using two M6 bolts to break them loose.

    If you buy the OEM kit it comes with grease. If not Autozone has little squeeze pouches for like a dollar.

    Thanks QC. At this point I'm just doing preventive maintenance (Clean/grease) when I rotate the tires. So I don't need any parts or kits yet. Are the squeeze pouches Autozone has Toyota specific? Silicone? Or the "Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease" quoted from the FSM?
