Well I realize that the winter cold and winter gas has a huge impact on my current crappy MPG's. However I was wondering whether my NGK Iridium plugs are playing a role in my current MPG loss.

I thought the irridiums would do better, however from what it appears the twin electrode coppers are best. Anyone experience any MPG issues or performance issues with NGK iridums?

if im not mistaken Iridiums are a colder burning plug, may not be the best option for winter. just my .02

Yeah I was thinking along those lines. This is the first winter after I installed the iridiums, so that may be why I am having issues. During the summer I did not seem to notice anything.

i dont think your plugs are the problem.these trucks drink more gas than a v8.i had a 03 reg cab short bed 2.4 5 speed, it got 40mpg.my 09 dc 4x4 auto might on a good day get 20mpg.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The best performing plug for the 3.4 is the OEM plug from yota.

I think the dual electrode plugs that Toyota recommends (pretty sure they're OEM, correct me if I'm wrong Chris) are alot better because with a standard single electrode plug the spark generated by coil paks arcs vertically (from center of electrode to the electrode tip) & since (at least the 3.4 V6) is a "Hemi" head combustion chamber configuration (plugs are threaded straight down & not angled in the head, the arc is thrown across the duaL ELECTRODE HORIZONTALLY for better combustion I assume.....:burnrubber:

Correct, but all pent roof CC's dont need a dual electrode plug. The 3.4 however, gets best results from the OEM Denso dual ground plugs.

    Hey Chris,

Do you think that it has to be Denso's. I bought Dual Ground NGK coppers, being that those are the only ones that autozone sells.

Both NGKs and Densos will be fine for your truck.

Ok thats good. I would buy Denso's but since I work at autozone (Insert Autozone Jokes here. :D) and get a discount, might as well go with the NGK's.

Lots of small stuff; Grillcraft MX, Bilstein 5100's, Deck Plate Mod w/ AFE air filter, Airaid MIT, braided SS brake lines, Redline Tuning QuickLIFT hood struts, Extang Full-Tilt tonneau cover, fog light mod, gray wire mod, power outlets on-demand, Diff breather ext, additional contours to passenger side from oak tree.
They have you heading the right direction with the dual ground OEM plugs. I put NGK iridiums in a few months ago and my (3.4L) gas mileage went from 20.0 to 18.3. I swapped them back out this weekend with the OEM Denso's and filled up this evening on my way home from work. Got back up to 19.8.

Well some good news to report. I just changed the plugs back to the dual ground copper NGK's. As soon as I ran the truck I felt a lot more pep. It was incredible. Most things that I do to the truck do not seem to make a difference. However changing these plugs seemed like night and day. Now hopefully the MPG's will go back up as well.
