Why does toyota lack in features for the tacoma?

    -Tailgate lock
    -Remote start
    -Cargo lamp
    -Power seats/ leather options
    -Navigation?

I know most of these are features you can add-on aftermarket, but I want a truck I can drive home from the dealership from without having to buy more stuff! The tundra has these options... Why can't the tundra's little cousin make them available?

It's like my wife saying that she couldn't get a VW Rabbit with leather and sat radio that she reallllly wanted, so she bought a Jetta. Clearly VW's marketing worked and she bought the more expensive car to get the features she wanted. If you want leather, power rear window, cargo light, etc. Buy something else. Vote with your dollars.

If that stuff were added, your next thread would be: Why are Tacoma's so damn expensive?!

Lol... I'd love to buy the tundra, but it's more truck than I need...

I'm just shocked it doesn't even have a bed light (found it out after reading what do you want in the next gen tacoma thread).

    Weird

The lack of features IS killing you. The "lack" is the subject of your sentence, not the issues.

They have to have a stopping point somewhere, if they kept adding options, there would be no demand for Tacomas, everyone would by Tundras.

Me neither... But I guess you could rig something up nicely with the in-bed power outlet to get a similar effect?

I guess leather was probably dropped since most people wouldn't check the box...

But what about the locking tailgate? There used to be a market for tailgates...

And the remote start? Every other toyota offers it?

I wonder why a reverse camera makes it on there, but the "basics" dont.

    Which is exactly my problem:

I wanted my next truck to be one that didn't need to be modded. And if it did, I wanted OEM parts available, so it can fall under warranty.

If there were a Toyota locking tailgate handle... I'd be content...

If there were a toyota remote start... I'd be thrilled!

The cargo light... I dunno if I can forgive them for not adding that stock.

Well 30k is a lot of money for a midsize truck not to get more options. A frontier or the chevy/GMC come with all the possible leather options and a light in the tailgate, that is the most basic of things on a truck, heated mirrors. I love my Taco but would of loved for there to be the option of leather and heated mirrors, ect. I dont know about all the people out there but the taco is the top of the line midsize and should have the options to go along with it. For all the tough guys out there who think it should be basic then they can get it that way. But gettin blood from hunting out of the seats or mud from laying in a field all day, is a real pain where you can wipe it down if you have leather. And when its snowing, sleeting, freezn rain the mirrors could be heated to avoid them being worthless.,

i dont understand obviously you drove and looked at the truck before you bought it, did you not realize it didnt have the above feature? they make aftermarket things to add on as you have the money. if it was that big of a deal you shoulve never signed the bottom line

Growing up with one of the 1st 79 Toyota 4wd pickups in the area I come from the other side of the camp.
I don't want all those features

I bought my 79 and drove straight from the showroom to the trails and followed all my buddies in their jeeps and Landcruisers all day long, the F-250's were left at the bottom of the trail because they wouldn't fit

Now with my 08 I can't even drive over a curb without the mudflaps making all kinds of racket :mad:

In the old days you rolled into a tirestore and if it fit a 6 lug chevy, it most likely fit the Toyota without any trimming or lifting or special backspacing needed, today look at all the "will it fit threads"

Every time someone requests more comforts the Toyota bean counters see $ signs and take away another truck feature and add a Lexus feature.

Look at the demise of the Landcruiser, it used to be a poor mans jeep and it was great to get you into the remote hunting camp, now the yuppies drive them to go get groceries and the Tacoma is following right along that direction :(
