Just found out there are two dog days at local water parks this month. Can't wait to see this derp go wild in a pool.

I periodically go to seminars with my bird dogs to tune them up for hunting season.

Some well meaning folks want to let their dogs fraternize with others.

While nothing has ever happened, our trainer's standard comment is "you're a split second away from a vet bill".

How dogs interact with each other is unpredictable and can change in a heartbeat.

I have three that live in the house with no problems, yet on occasion one of them will piss off the other and "Katy bar the door"

No blood but it sure sounds bad.

My Boston got chewed up by a friends husky at his house last year. They've always been fine, in fact, the husky always ignored Chloe. But as soon as Chloe walked behind the couch out of our sight, husky pinned her down and went nuts. Blood was everywhere. The husky suffered zero injuries. Chloe had deep punctures through her muzzle, ears, chin, and almost got her eye punctured by a tooth. All of her teeth were broken and the punctures through the muzzle caused severe damage to her gums. Her tongue was punctured through the middle, much like a human tongue piercing, and her tongue was split at the end like a snake. Shes got a bunch of facial scars and gremlin teeth now but now I'm more cautious about taking her to friends houses. That friend never even asked me if she was okay later that night after I ran out of his house with a bloody dog and he never offered to help with the vet bill, friendship terminated.

I hate humans. Dogs are better. Even if they're assholes.

We went on a short day hike today, Louie loved it and was super well behaved when we encountered others on the trail.

I'm new on Tacomaworld but here is my 1.5 year old chocolate lab. Her name is Bailey. I blame her for not having long travel lol. We had to do dual hip replacement last winter to correct her hip dysplasia. But we still love her.

Wow. That just pissed me off and reminded me of a time when I was walking my lab of 90 lbs and the women that was walking her poodle asked if they could play. I said sorry I don't know your dog. All of a sudden she let her dog off the leashe and said "get him". The poodle ran to my dog in a flash , got up on its hind legs and started scratching at my dogs face. Meanwhile this crazy bitch "not the dog" is laughing. I had the poodle off him in a spit second and told my dog to sit and stay while I handed back the poodle and said WTF is wrong with you. My dog was fine no blood.

Similar situation when I was walking our female bloodhound, there were a few people in a front yard drinking having a good time, This was when Ruby was pretty young and wasn't trained yet so I crossed the street to add some distance. Out of the group of people I see a medium size dog, probably 50#s, make a beeline straight for us. Ruby was probably 4 months at the time so she had no idea how to react so I stepped in front of her and this dog charged us, I managed to just "push" it away with my foot/shin a few times and I glance over to see if anyone noticed their dog got out. They all noticed but no one was trying to assist in the situation, so I'm there with a bloodhound puppy running circles around me while being chased by some type of other 50# dog. I finally just wound up and punted the dog a good 5 feet or so and it yelps but is still giving chase. Finally the dirtbag owner slowly strolls up and doesn't say a word to me, just grabs his dog (no collar, fyi) and walks away.

"There's no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners." Shitty owner in that situation.

and that is exactly why I carry Halt when I walk the dogs. Strange dogs get a shot in the face when they get too close. Doesn't hurt them, but it sends them the other direction. It's not their fault they have DB's for owners. and NO blood is shed!!

I had a DB owner tell me to stop kicking her dog.... the girls were on a leash and hers was loose. He didn't seem aggressive, but didn't want to take a chance. I had my one foot up keeping the dog away and after she grabbed her dog she said I didn't need to kick it.... told her to bring it back and I'd show her kicking

How do y'all train your dogs to behave so good? My puppy is 7 months old and gets super excited when she sees squirrels, birds, or other dogs. I have taken puppy obedience classes already, but she still pulls the leash like crazy when there are other dogs. Every time I walk her, I have to avoid other dog walkers.

Repetition. That's the only way Bailey has learned anything. She still pulls like crazy when she sees anything cool. No pull harness's work ok but she still pulls a bit. I've discovered so far that a tired puppy is a good puppy.

I like that platform. Keep them from digging for stuff under the seats. Mines like a 3 year old. Constantly having to reach back to get he toys she has lost.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I am very sorry for your loss, but very happy you and your family got her love for 8 yrs.

Our dog (pit mix) came from a rescue. When we met her she was sweet and mostly gentle. After a few weeks we realized why she was returned by the previous adopter. She was a bitch, to put it lightly. My wife was afraid of her for a time, as was I a bit. I was raised to not give up, and we didn't. Not a day goes by that I'm not so happy we stuck it out. With ALOT of time and training, she is a great dog, still some issues, but generally pleasant to have around. Good with kids, strangers etc. Could be better with dogs, but hopefully we will improve that. I learned that patience, and time is needed when dealing with a dog with a blurry background. Err on the side of caution if need be, especially with children!!. They say they "shut down" for a while after, and we seen that first hand. Your advice is solid, but if I may add... give them time to adapt, and settle in. It may be the dog and it's past, but it may have been too soon also. Glad that everything was "okay" and not more serious.

    Not enough...
Mine is totally fine right now. I don't think he even feels the staples in his head. He is his usual playful self, absolutely unfazed! And he also got a new nickname - Staples Center :)

Today I spent the entire day at the house where that adopted dog lives. Installed a doggie door, built a taller fence, hooked up some appliances. He is a total sweetheart. Playful, pretty high energy and likes to jump on people, so I could see how my dog and even I interpreted that as an attempt to hump. The owner is 100% committed to do whatever it takes to socialize and adjust him to be around other people and dogs, so will see how that goes, but she is one of the most responsible people I know, so I am sure she will do everything possible.
