Curious to see if anyone has fooled around with headlight eyelids yet. I honestly don't know if it would look good, bad, somewhere in between. I know they were reasonably popular on 2nd gen, and I always think they're a pretty neat way to add a little extra touch to the headlights. So, any word on them yet?

Maybe I'll take some of my spare vinyl and make half assed templates just to see what they look like tomorrow...

i think no ones made any because the angle and shape of the lights are already pretty aggressive compared to the 2GENs which have the blob/bubble eyes... but i'd be interested to see what you come up with and maybe a fiberglass eyelid is a future mod in the making :)

Before I start, let me make it very clear that this is basically me:
I do small decals for flat surfaces, battle flags, car club logos, stuff like that. I've never in my life done a wrap, or a tint, or anything remotely like an eyelid before.

So be prepared, because it turned out in a shit show of wrinkles. It's a good proof of concept though.

I made up a quick template for what I figured would make the most sense but not obstruct the high beams.

I went with black because I had some extra that I had written off because it got mushed in shipping, also I think it makes for a nice contrast on a white Taco.

One thing to be aware of is where the hood seam meets the fender, the headlight has a slight change in profile. As you can see, I screwed up miserably!

Overall though, I think the idea is a sound one.

Someone who knows what they hell they are doing, @rrentrop , maybe... Do you think this would be something you could make? I know they already have color matched vinyl for the side marker covers they offer.

Here's my vague template to at least get things started in the right direction, grid for scale is 1".

I dont think id do it in body color. Black would be subtle and add nicely to black fender flares

I was going to do the exact same thing lol. I figured the curves on the lights would be hard as hell to get the wrap to go on without creasing

I tried it and ran very fast without looking back! There is no way I would subject my customers from trying to install something like this.

Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but the difficulty rating is off the charts.

Well, good to know I don't just suck at it then!

I've actually been thinking about getting a set of your decals (turn signal covers, tailgate letters, and logo decals), but then I think wait, I have a plotter, I could make it myself...
but I'm too lazy to make templates :anonymous:
and that feels kinda like piracy.:bananadead:

I tried to do a set of relatively simple looking tail lights a while ago but once you start applying wrap you realize the geometry is a mother fu!@/*er

I've seen a guy apply his wraps under higher Temps and he stretches them across complex surfaces. Like you said it's do able but incredibly frustrating for the average Joe

Does a headlight eyelid have any functional purpose?

They serve more of a purpose on some lights than others but its always cosmetic. Typically they make a happy headlight look mean. Sometimes people make theur headlights look sleepy.

Someone grab some plasti dip and experiment on your headlights! Would love to see how they'd come out. I'd do it myself but don't have the time to.
