The stock Goodyears are pretty good for an OEM tire. They do well in ratings on TireRack (which really only includes road related factors). The Rugged Trail tires used on the 2nd gens were notoriously crap and that shows in the ratings.

An OEM really has 4 requirements for a tire:

    1. It kinda mostly rolls
    2. It helps improve mileage (which generally leads to very light weight and mild tread pattern)
    3. It rides comfortably
    4. It doesn't cost that much (they are buying a lot of them)

Items 2&3 are the weak points off-road. The flexible and light sidewall and tread area don't do well when poked. They are "ok", but there's been enough off-road failures to give me pause.

I run them off-road and recently I was on a rocky trail and was very concerned about my tires. Another 3rd gen OR driver on the trail commented the same thing.

For an AT, they are excellent road tires. They have good grip dry and wet in my experience and work well in snow.

I hate to give up the road manners, but when they wear out, I expect I will be replacing them with a LT tire.

Some valid points made so far. however, I found my goodyears to be complete garbage. They were chunking in the first week of ownership, ~250 miles, all street driving. Sold them quick. I won't buy Goodyear

Keep in mind people want to rationalize and justify putting new aftermarket tires on their ride. Then they also want to defend the decision to spend the money on it. It's a natural tendency. So some of the "negative reviews" i think can be attributed to this factor.

Don't no were I interrogated anyone or insulted anyone. As far as these tires I just wanted to see who was happy enough with them and was going to hold out with them tell they were yoused up. I'm not in love with these tires. And just wanted to get opinions to see if they were holding up for people tell they Replaced with there tire of preference, as that's what my plans are leaning towards also..

We're 4 days into hunting season here in Texas, and I've gotten my first puncture. Can't tell what's causing air to leak, but I'm losing about 5psi/ day. I assume mesquite or cactus. I love the tires performance on the road, but unfortunately I don't think they're going to work for me. I'll be replacing soon.

Edited 9/6/2016: Had some time to stop by Sam's Club and get the tire looked at today (found out from a co-worker that Sams offers free tire repair for members). There was a trim nail in the center of the tread. I have put these tires through some abuse in the last 7000 miles, and I have to say looks are deceiving. I hate the look of the tires, but they've exceeded expectations in performance. That said, I'll still likely swap them out for some KO2s in a year or so.

I've been running BFG KO2s with good results for many years, but I've also been driving Z-71s. I'm a little concerned about running E Rated tires on this truck due to the weight, but will probably wind up doing it anyways. I'll patch this one for now and see how it does. If I keep having problems, I may try slime. Before Kevlar, that's what I used to do and it worked well.

Falkens are heavy as hell too. I've been looking at the Falkens/ Toyos/ General/ Coopers. Selling my low miles wheels/ tires and going to a 17" wheel is also an idea.

Trying to avoid dumping a bunch more money into a brand new truck, but it's gotta go where I need to go and get me home.

My $0.02 = GY AT with Kevlar are good street tires for a truck. I suspect they can handle mild off roading, but I wouldnt personally trust them beyond a gravel road or light mud with a hard packed bottom. I know they are deemed All Terrains, but I cant seem to wrap my head around that concept with those tires.

I took my GY's off after 3 days and replaced them with Maxxis Buckshot 2 Mudders. That was strictly a want-to purchase. I could have made do with the stock tires, but Id have always been nervous and second guessing the GY's ability to get me out of a jam.

They were smooth and quiet on the road, fwiw.

I haven't used them much as I only have 1k miles and am scared to run my truck to hard yet. But I tested my 4 low up a pretty step loose rock grade and they held traction just fine at normal psi.

I had the wrangler silent armors. Best dam tires worked well on and off road. Do you have experience or know that they puncture easily? Mine had only 1 puncture in it's lifetime but that was because of a screw. Wheeled over alot of rocks. Ran them for over 40-50K miles across 2 vehicles. Former boss had them for 75K miles on a jeep.

Tacoma still doesn't come with them. And only once you get into full sized and 4runner which are significantly more expensive do you start getting better tires.

Most of the time you won't get a great tire from factory
