What do you all do with your lugs? Do you buy black lug nuts or do you dip the lugs as well? I am afraid of plasti-dipping the lugs and then trashing them when I mount the wheels.

Mines held up good so far, wash it weekly and no chips or peeling, I used the cans from lowes three cans did the wheels and the lower part of the bumper cover, getting a new set of tires in a week or two so that will be a test for sure, one thing if you have wheel weights I would mark them on the tire and take them off before you dip it then after it dries knock them back on

Why mark wheel weights and re-install?

Because if you go to change tires when they take the old weights to rebalance there's gonna be a bare spot where you diddnt paint

Just had new tires put on and very minor damage from the machine. Since plasti-dip is self-leveling I took it home, and sprayed the areas that were scraped with a few coats and its like it never happened. Had my wheels plasti-dipped now for over 2 years. Only had to touch them up this one time after getting new tires.

Its all about the prep work when applying this stuff and making sure not to coat it on too thick all at once.

Truck is really dirty in this photo but you get the idea. Really love the look of black and magnetic gray.

What do you all do with the lugs? Does the plasti-dip come off when you put your wheels back on?

Been holding up for a year or so now. I used a heat gun for each layer to make the process quicker and to make sure that I got a nice smooth finish.

You wash it with any special product? I was thinking wiping them with armor all stuff or something like that. or maybe some pledge. Pledge is doing a great job on my ATV fenders lol should do good on dipped rims i think

I'm going to dip my steelies at my buddy's house (he has jack stands). If I paint the wheels over the course of, say, 2 hours - how long before I can mount them on and drive home?

How careful can you be reinstalling them.on the truck? I painted mine and had them installed within 1-2hrs of painting. The plastic dip is still quite soft at that time though. So I was VERY careful to not let the caliper or rotor touch the insides of the rims. Also don't try and wash the truck for a bit as well.

I'll be as careful as can be, thanks for the reminder about calipers/rotors - that would suck. I don't think I'll paint too much of the barrel, just enough to let the dip wrap from the front. I don't really wash my vehicles ever so good to go on that front :).

I'm mostly worried about the 40 minute drive from my buddy's place back home. Thoughts?

Just make sure to spray on like 4 coats or it will be a pain to take off

Should look fine. Just take your time and make sure everything is taped off/covered in newspaper and put a bunch of coats on. Remember: it's plasti-dip, if you don't like it then just peel it off. ;)

I did mine about 2 years ago looked good but scraped the rim a few times and needed to take it off. Has not come off still stuck on in the nooks and crannies. Looks good but is a pain to get off

You spent how many thousands on the truck, and dont bother to take care of it???:annoyed:

Should be fine for the drive. It wont be in liquid form, just softer than when fully dry.
