IMO you should not pay more than $34k.

That might be a little bit ambitious depending on the area, but I'd definitely look for a better discount off MSRP. $2100 off is decent, but $2700-2900 is achievable.

I personally found that the Costco pricing in my area was NOT the best deal; while it was okay, I still had three offers via email that were lower, two of them substantially lower. Went back to my preferred dealer where I'd done the Costco pricing and scrapped that in favor of them matching the offers in hand.

I made a trip to AZ for a below MSRP sale.

Just called and got a quote from a local toyota dealer and i have been talking to the same guy for the past 2 weeks. I'm wondering if this would be a good price?

2017 Tacoma TRD off Road 4x4 DCLB
with premium and tech package with JBL.
    Towing package
    all weather mats
    MSRP: $40319

Long beds get an aftermarket tonneau. They're certainly available (at least in SET territory) but they're not Toyota's.

$2569 discount is decent if you're not getting forked with fees and stuff. Is it $37750 plus *only* tax and title?

Maybe ill go with the after market tonneau cover. For the $37750 that would be plus tax and title, considering i'm in California tax would be around 10%. I'll call the dealership again if i can get $40319 as a OTD price. What do you guys think?

I am having a hard time finding out what invoice is, I thought it was 35k?

Thanks for the info. Not sure how I can work the dealer lower with the other dealers in the state not coming close to the price. Maybe I'll try and get some local states dealer prices and see if I can work them down another $600-700

SouthEast Toyota invoice for the 2017 7544 - 4x4 TRD Off-Road Double Cab Short bed AT is $32,153.15 plus $950 delivery, yours may be slightly different. Easy enough to approximate though based on the already known 2016/2017 invoice differences.

Current accessory invoice pricing I had matched the link above. I think I went home with a document I shouldn't have been allowed to keep since I didn't get it back on my second visit. After I've taken delivery of mine I'll post the PDF scan I made of it.

Go out of state if you need to. Email every dealer within 250 miles asking for a quote. Put them all on the To: line so they see who they're up against. I didn't have to go that far away but emailed a bunch and had three very competitive quotes within 24 hours. I also had a couple tell me "nobody's discounting these off MSRP because they're so new"... I just laughed and told them thanks for playing.

Just be sure you're ready to pull the trigger, as that's the sweeter to them -- that you'll place the order "that weekend".

It also really helps if you don't have a trade; forces all numbers to be your out-the-door pricing and they can't get you in on a teaser price then f' you on the trade. If you do have a trade see what Carmax will offer and use that as your baseline; if they'll give you more, great, if they don't it does to carmax.

So right now I am paying about $1,200 over invoice... it seems like a great deal is $500 over invoice, ill take your advice and send out a bunch of emails!

Not according to what I've been told by multiple dealers. It's a factory order item and can't be port or dealer installed(*). While they may have been wrong, the circumstances gave them no incentive to lie to me about this.

(*) other than transplanting from one truck to another

This is why I always negotiate on Drive-Out price. I can calculate what portion of drive out is the taxes & title. Only way to be sure to avoid any surprise fees and truly compare dealer to dealer.

I would be pleased with that provided there are no other fees/gotchas. Other may feel differently.

One question is also whether this is a dealer you like the service department at and would be visiting again in the future, or if this is a one-and-done deal and you'll never see them again. If there is a different dealer you'd rather use, give them a chance to match.

I think fees would be just tax and dmv. I called maybe 10+ dealership and they only give $300-600 off msrp. So far this dealership are pretty much straight forward on price. The salesman i talked to gave me time to think and he told me if im ready i can put in the order with deposit of $500 refundable. I guess i would visit a few dealership and have them match my price or even lower it. But so far im happy with the price, but not really in a hurry to buy.

Well, if you have no particular reason to buy right now there's something to be said for waiting two or three months and buying in late fourth-quarter. More supply on the ground, fewer people buying between Thanksgiving & Christmas, and dealers wanting to hit sales thresholds for the year may make for a little more flexibility on price.

At the end of the day if you are happy with the price, that's what's important. While it's important to gather information from the many knowledgable folks here, don't let armchair quarterbacks make you second guess a deal. Different markets and areas will change what's realistically available in terms of a deal.

This seems pretty good. What are the tags and taxes cost which you would add to the 37,254.

After 3 months of waiting for the right truck/deal I finally
    pulled the trigger yesterday.

2017 TRD Sport DCSB (super white) $34,705
    Technology Pkg no JBL $2360
    Tonneau cover $650
    Tow Pkg $650
All-Weather mats and door sills $209
    Exhaust tip $90
    Predator steps $649
    Destination $940

    Total: $40,253

Negotiated $1900 off MSRP (via email) and another $650 off for the
predator steps. I told the manager I didn't want them so he took them
off the price of the truck. They also gave me $500 more for my trade than 3 other dealers were willing to do.

Paid $37,703 plus tax and tags.
