 didn't you read the owners manual?!?
Actually I had to do that once...when my tent closed up in the wind and tried to eat me like a Venus fly trap. I was afraid I'd hurt something so I climbed out the other end.

That's awesome. As for the owners manual, the ARB is very, very lacking. It doesn't even explain enough to get the tent mounted and put together right without using the Internet to find other people's posts and pictures.

I'm pretty peeved still that I had to do this in the first place but today I got around to fixing the way my CVT tent (Summit Series) mounts to the track mounts themseslves. There're 4 bolts that are 3/16th or 1/4th in thread size that hold the tent to the tracks. Apparently after all my recent offroading all 4 of the bolts with nylon locking nuts either came extremely loose or completely off. This resulted in the tent rattling and sliding around all over the tracks. Sure, the bottom of the tent base, which is aluminum plated, is all scratched up -- no big deal since it's cosmetic damage -- but what pissed me off is that the 4 holes that the bolts go through on the tent's base basically grinded and scraped off a ton of the aluminum base. The holes that the bolts go through became anywhere from 50-100% bigger. I'm a "fix it once and only once" kind of guy so I went pretty extreme on remedying the problem. First, I got a tube of "quick steel" putty and filled in each of the four -- now enlarged -- holes on the tent base with the putty. I quickly inserted the same bolts through but with a 1.5" (in total diameter) fender washer below the included washer (.5") on the bolt and onto the same nuts but with a lot of blue threadlocker. Then I got more of the putty and covered both the head of the bolts inside the tent and the nuts of the bolts inside the track mounts. If the tent rattles loose with all of that done to it then I don't know what'll work. Yea, sure, if I ever need to take the tent off the tracks it'll be a huge pain in the ass but it was worth it (to take the tent off the bed rack I'll just take it off with the tracks included instead).

I highly suggest everyone checks their bolts that hold the tent and tracks together or tighten them with purple (or even blue) threadlocker.

Bonus picture of my tent from a few weeks ago..

Are you using a lock washers? I'm surprised that the nylon nut did not hold better but the lock washer should do the trick.

Not a Tepui specific problem. It's the same for all softwall tents. They'll make some noise in strong winds. I know the post you're talking about on FB and being here in Utah I can say that the winds were bad in the Moab area last week. So rough timing for him. His situation is more extreme that a breeze or light wind. They don't make much noise until the winds get pretty strong. But most tents these days handle even very strong winds quite well, just a little noisy.

I keep a box of ear plugs in my tent. They work great when I'm camping on the beach and the winds are high.

Yea, I don't know -- maybe just bad luck. I've been romping pretty fast on some bumpy and rocky trails so I think all the vibration and jostling eventually wore down the locknuts.

Initial installation: no. The bolts aren't that long and with a lock washer the bolt would barely extrude past the nut. I figured the extra wide fender washer was more important so I opted for the threadlocker ..and steel putty, haha.

I was in 70ish mph winds last fall in my CVT. Sounded like the tent was getting ripped to shreds all night but everything was fine the next day.
Earplugs would be a no no for me. Need to hear if any furry critters are roaming around o_O

I'm thinking about adding more bolts to the two mounting rails as they attach to the tent base. Does anyone know what the thread size is of the bolts/nuts are?
