    There is also this problem. I had less than 50k(also a 2015) when mine took a shit. Instead of spending $800+ list price on one I fixed it.

    The real annoying problem is the second time it went out I couldn't find a single thing wrong with it. It just stopped. So I called up my Toyota parts guy and got one for $550(I run a body shop)

    But, if you have one go out for the first time, it don't hurt to yank it apart and see if it's those leads, crimp em back together with a tiny crimp, and put it back in. It only buys you time, but for a few pennies it went another 15k.

    Also, don't the V6 Tundras have the exact same problem and have a recall?

    Reserected from the dead.
    It's a shame these pumps and valves are only used during cold startups. They are never needed when the engine is warm. Lots of issues for something that is used so little.

    What I'm curious about is if one could simply put a resistor in the plug and delete the pump. Theoretically the ECU would see a load when it turns the pump on and not put the truck into limp mode.

    I know this following fix is very unsafe, but, in some of the crowds I'm in people will change out steering wheels and use resistors in the airbag leads to not throw a restraint system fault code. That would lead one to believe the same could be done for a useless overpriced air pump.

    Everyone with a good working pump do yourself a favor. Pull the foam filter out of the inside of the pump (its one small screw dead center on the top of the pump). Then put a 1inch uni crank case breather on the inlet of the pump.

    This way you wont have a foam filter deterioration that kills the pump. The filter is only there remove any bigger particles from the air that could possibly clog the CAT. This is what i did on my truck and feel much better about it now.

    A resistor would solve the issue of throwing a code for the pump missing, but the ECU also looks for a change in the lambda reading from the O2 sensors caused by the air pump causing a "lean" condition in the exhaust.

    On previous cars (Audis) that I've removed smog equipment from, I coded this out of the ECU so it doesn't look for the smog pump. I haven't bothered to root the ECU on the Tacoma since there isn't much to gain by writing custom engine software because no turbos.

    That is exactly what the Hewitt Tech bypass is....a resistor that tricks the system into thinking it is cold outside thus the pump never comes on. When I crank my truck and look at my diagnostic tool it drops to roughly 32-34 degrees upon startup for about 1 second then returns to normal temp thus keeping the whole system from ever kicking on. :)

    I checked out the site and their kits only go to 2012. I have a 15. Should this be a concern?
