    Hey everyone,

Have any of you used one of the little gadgets listed below to make anew key? I had to get a new one due to excessive wear on my old one, and all I have left is to get the chip programmed. Lowe's and Home Depot said they couldn't do it, and the local Toyota dealership wants a minimum of $85 to do it. The new key is one of these (flip key):

The programmer I heard about on here:
    https://smile.amazon.com/Aimeechow-...3260499&sr=8-1&keywords=toyota+key+programmer

I'd love it if this would work, just don't know if it'll for sure work on my truck (2005, V6 w/ "dot" immobilizer).

Thanks for any and all help!

My key has the dot. My new key was programmed by a locksmith with a tool that plugged into the odb port. That dot is particular. If your original has it, you need to get a blank with the dot as well.

That thing looks interesting though and cheaper than what I paid.

A good locksmith will be able to make you a key.

Yeah, I was talking to the locksmith who cut the key in the first place. Said he'd charge about $60 plus time to do it. Which if that's what I gotta do, so be it, but if the programmer works then I'm game for that. I've always been the kinda guy where if I can do it myself, I will. Haha.

Yeah, mine has the dot. From my quick research last night, the dot is usually able to be programmed with one of those programmers, while the "G" key is not.

So in case anyone was wondering (or to future people who find this via Google), the programmer worked! Of course, soon after I started this thread this I poked around some more and found this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-key-programming.238286/

Followed the programming instructions in the first post, worked exactly how it should've.

HOWEVER, I want to offer some clarification on what exactly happens when you do this (verified through trial/error):
-When you initiate the programming, all keys except for the one you used to initiate the process are cleared from the system; therefore, if you still have your grey key, you'll need to program that one too (just repeat the step of inserting/removing the unprogrammed key).
-The maximum number of keys these trucks can hold is 2 master keys, 1 valet key (or whatever the grey key is called). For me, this meant I lost the ability to use one of the factory black keys. Since I was replacing one anyway, this didn't mean much to me. To add more than this, I believe you have to use TechStream.

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere before. Hopefully this helps someone!
