I ran into this predicament this weekend when I went canoeing. The canoe was too short to effectively use the tow hooks in the front. So here is the question: has anyone, or is anyone using their "Auxiliary ditch light" mounts for tie down points?

Here is a simple suggestion: Use a longer tie down strap!

Thanks for the suggestion. Longer straps did not solve the problem of having the strap across plastic and body paint. To hold things down you are supposed to have tension in opposing positions; short canoe being pulled forward of the windshield, and forward towards the rear bumper is not ideal (they are not opposing positions they are complementary.)

I don't want to make a big deal about this, but a longer strap is what I and many (thousands?) of people use. Yes, a strap can rub the paint, so simple put a small cloth, or piece of foam under the strap where it touches the hood. Its a simple solution to a simple problem.

    a bunch of new/used parts....and some skids.
you could find an attachment point under the hood --> then run a piece of webbing or flat rope under out through the side of the hood--> then just hook your kayak strap to that.... seen that set-up on plenty of vehicles.

    Google Thule 530 Quick Loop

    I got you man.

Either 25$ on Amazon. Or 5$ from hardware store.
