Stealth Light Bar Project

Just got my switch for my light bar that should be here around next week. I have a question or two..
I just popped out the blank switch that is on the lower row, and popped in the new switch.. It was easy enough, just take out the tray and everything. How difficult would it be to get the switch into the top row, I tried to look under and through the tray hole but it is blocked off so I couldn't push it out from the back. If I wanted to go this way would what would I have to take off?

 

Where did you get that switch? I've been trying to find a switch that will pop right in there without having to modify the hole, but have been unable to find any.

For the left side of the steering wheel get 1.54" x 0.83" and for the center console (I may be wrong) but I am pretty sure it is 1.28" x 0.87"

 

You have to unbolt the lower dash assembly but it is about 10 minutes of work, if that.

I'm running 2 switches in the top row.

 

Is it harder to wire everything from the bottom row or top row? Or is it all just the same?

 

FWIW on those switches.. my first switch had a bad upper LED out of the box. The replacement switch lasted 2 months and the same LED went bad.

Not sure why, one day I'll take apart the second switch and see if it's something obvious and easily repaired. They fit great, but keep in mind they are a $12 switch (and some change) and are built like a $12 switch.

I bought them for the OEM appearance, but the seemingly low quality is really annoying.

Yeah right out of the box I look at it at wasn't amazed, but I wasn't surprised by the quality of it. I paid $12 for it so I can't really complain about the glossiness and what not.. Fits perfect though.

I will need extra wire if I mount it on a certain row?

 

No.

You asked the difference between mounting it in the bottom row and the top.

The only difference is 6" of wire.

Thanks, I've been looking for a switch like this for a while and couldnt find one anywheres, just ordered one anyone know where to find a switch the exact same, except with a different saying, like 'emergency lights' or something of that nature.

 

I wanted all my lighting controls on the same row.

 

I may end up doing that, but for now I just popped it in where it is now so I don't break it or lose it.

 

Those buttons look really good, idk how I couldnt find them before, I just used rigid rocker switches hanging loosely in the mean time

 

Hey, also, my light bar comes with a generic harness and a switch, can I just remove the switch from the harness and wire it up to my switch fairly easily?

 

You have to wire the harness to the switch. You can find the wiring diagram for those switches online. Some of the Amazon ads have them attached but some don't. That's where I found mine.

I didn't wire these myself, so can't help you much there. I ran the wires but reading diagrams is not my forté.

 

When you say center console u mean that row under heat and a.c. controls where the cigarette lighter and 12v source are?? If so u have no idea how helpful that is I've been trying to figure this out for a little while now??

 

Ok, I was just making sure I would have that option.

Yes, they advertise the button to fit in the area under the AC controls, it would be the 1.54" x 0.87". If you compare the pictures you can tell that it "should" fit in that area.

 

I wish there was a way to like something more than once cause I'd deff be using it right now hahaha true story thanks for the info huge help
