I have a brake controller and don't do high speed like many in here expect 75mph +.

For sure, I do not go over 100-105 km/h (about 65) when Im towing. Just not worth it to me. There is no sway what so ever at that speed even in wind

I don't even do that as I am towing horses. When I take turns I watch the cams in there to see how they are doing.

So, because this thread is mostly about weight...

We picked up a few hundred pounds of rocks while exploring and rock hounding in the Rodman Mountains. I would guess between 300-400 pounds of rocks up against the tail gate, 650 pounds of adults in the cab, and several coolers full of ice and water near the front of the bed. We ended our trip on a trail that cut across a sloped plane with washes cutting across the trail. The rear axle was articulating side to side over each wash cut and I heard the bump stops hit several times. We were doing 10mph tops and slow across each wash. The truck was very smooth with this weight on the drive home on the bumpy concrete freeways! I assume I was near the payload maximum and that's why it was so flexy but smooth

I don't think sumo springs would help me much with my off road driving habits. What's better?

Firestone air bags are great. I'll never own a truck without them again

You have to remember, they did not have the updated TSB and thus the hanging RPM's. I wonder how it would perform with the TSB

The numbers don't work out actually...

Assume (on the very low side) 10% tongue weight from your trailer. So you're putting your total payload at 1080 (780 + 300). Your payload capacity on a DCSB is like ~1200 I think? So by the time you add yourself (single passenger) you're at the limit. Forget about camp supplies, extra gas cans for your ATV, or another passenger and luggage.

Payload capacity on these trucks just isn't made for activity like that.

Just flipping through the thread and I see this and busted out laughing. Had the same thing happen to me the other day. First time I had 4 other adults in the truck and I couldn't believe it.

23' Jayco hybrid- approx. 4300 lbs empty and pulled with a Husky Center Line TS (weight distribution and sway control) and my brake controller. Couldn't even tell it was behind me unless I looked in my mirrors. Not going to lie I was kind of worried about it though I know it doesn't come close to max tow weight but this camper best suites my family and more than stoked the Taco did not have a problem with it at all. High five Tacoma :woot:

Did you haul that trailer up any long hills? If so how did the Truck handle it. I am also looking at getting a Jayco.

You guys think Toyota Corporate ever registers bogus TW accounts to post positive reviews? I wonder how many people can say towing sucks with 2500 lbs and then someone can say towing 4600 lbs was a breeze. I get that we all live in different regions with different topography but still...

I always crack up when truck owners say that. Tundra owners used to say the same thing with 10k on the hitch. Getting close to the tow limit you can feel, no need to lie; everyone knows...

Honestly though it is nice to see a mid size truck do some decent towing, they can, not everyone needs a full size or 3/4 ton for a single axle. Nice set up!

Living in San Diego there aren't really too many but the 52 East of SD tested it out pretty well. Truck handled it perfectly fine. Now I know there will be much steeper grade inclines/declines in the not too distant future but I know those will be fine as well. Brake controller is awesome too.

Thank you. I had a 2k empty trailer on the back Saturday. It sucked. These trucks are really made to tow. Now put that weight on a full size and you "can't tell". No way I'd tow 6k on a taco.

If you need to regularly tow, buy a full size. Go off road, but a taco.

It nice to have access to both.

Total weight is around 6000 plus 500 or so in the bed. F towing that with a Tacoma 1000 miles.
