K&N mpg impact?

I have the I4 engine in my truck. Has anyone out there installed a K&N intake on this engine, and if so, did it hurt the mpg?

actually, people are having alot better luck with removing the secondary air filter and instalkling an afe pro dry s filter.................this is a filter you clean, but its good because its non oiled. plus, it catches more dirt/debris than a k&n.

I personally would (and did) stay away from oiled filters. IMO, it's old technology and there are better filters out there.

 

So..could you tell me more about this filter??? is it a system? or just a filter? and ?? $$$ and where'd you get it? paaaleeezeee??

OK, I've got a real stupid question. I bought my Tacoma with the Borla exhaust. With the exhaust came a 100,000 miles before replacement filter. It didn't come with instructions and I'm all about following the instructions!!! How do you clean the filter? It is a dry filter, if that matters. Thanks....

 

^Depends on the brand. With the AFE, you can tap it, vacuum it, or wash it. Each method gets it progressively cleaner, obviously. I know with the AEM Dryflow (had one on my Altima), you use a cleaning kit.

 

So I could take it to work and use compressed air to get it clean?

 

I would never use compressed air on a filter.

Do you think about 90 psi would mess it up?

 

if its a paper type filter.....you can use compressed air on it, just dont keep a steady stream of air in one spot, or it could tear up the filter.

 

Thanks, I'll take care of it Monday at work. I've noticed a drop in MPG and I figured it's got to be the filter.

 

hey mm, is yours an actual paper filter,or is it one of those cotton gauze type filters??

 

Ya know, I've only looked at it once. And I couldn't tell you. How do you know the difference?

 

one thing you can do is drop a bit of water on the filter and see how it reacts to the filter. if its the paper type, it'll soak in more than likely, but if its the cotton gauze type, the water should sit on top and not soak in right away. at least thats the way i'd try it. or another way.............does the filter have a mesh type screen all over the entire filter??

eithewr way though........you can used some compressed air(blow out the side the air comes in), just dont put alot of pressure on it.
