An intro from W. NC

I finally decided I better introduce myself after lurking for quite a while. I'm working up here in the COLD Blue Ridge Mtns of W. North Carolina. I've been driving my 1998 Xtra Cab Limited V6 4x4 since the fall of 2001. It's my only vehicle. I bought it with a little less than 50K on it, and I'm now somewhere under 130K.

It's a GREAT truck. I get 20-21 MPG even going up and down the windy mountain roads. I started reading these forums because I'm going to have to get a double cab sometime in the next year. The dog and equipment all fit perfectly in the Xtra Cab, but I'm probably going to be able to adopt my foster daughter this spring, and she's growing - growing enough to complain about the seat in the Xtra Cab. (And I agree with her that it is pretty bad now that she is almost out of a car seat.)

Anyway, she wants a Sienna, but she isn't buying. And, she likes all the things we get to do because we travel in the 4x4 Tacoma.

Anyway, "Hi." And by the way, I'm an elderly female. (Elderly, that is, compared to a lot of you young boys.)

ASU? Asheville? LR? (Trying to think of the others.) It is gorgeous. I'm originally from the Seattle area, but this place certainly gives Seattle a lot of competition. I love it!

Hey welcome to TW. I may be traveling to Asheville tonight for dinner with the girlfriend, its a great area.

 

It's about two hours to Asheville from Boone. Are you in the part of TN that's closer to Asheville?

I've read a lot of your posts, forget which topic I was researching though. I just remember your name and truck build info as a specific one I've learned from while lurking. Thanks!

 

I'm in Johnson City TN, about an hour whether I go to asheville or boone, well, boone may be about an hour and 20....

Welcome Aboard.................and what is classified as "Elderly"? Chronological age? Displayed age (how one acts)? Age at heart?

Not sure I'm ready to be placed in the "Elderly" category...............YET!

 

Johnson City! Yeah, it's about two hours to Johnson City for me, or at least that's what I usually say. I just tell everyone that no matter where I'm going from Boone it will be two hours before I get to a bigger place. You've probably got a better road to Asheville than I do. Wilkesboro, NC is only about a half hour now that 421 is four lane. So I'll probably have to start saying something different about driving times soon. 321 getting four-laned is starting to make a difference too, even with it not even close to finished yet.

I do miss those mountain highway curves sometimes, though.

 

I always take 321-421 to banner elk then on to boone. With I26 asheville is a stone throw away.

 

I know. I've just gotten so I joke with my daughter that I'm OLD OLD OLD. Her response: "MOMMY! No you're not. Stop that!" I think that means I don't act my age - in a good way. I doubt if I'll ever really be old until I'm dead. Life is just too interesting and full of fun stuff to learn about and do.
