I'm the same way, I want to make my shell waterproof but it's currently not. I just like having the stuff enclosed and able to be locked in as well, but I love the look of bed racks.

Yea I'm currently looking on CL for a shell, I found one but it's almost all the way over in SC. I think what I will do it sell my rack and then buy some bed bars to hold me over until I can find the right shell I want.

Will be listing the rack officially first of Oct once I get back from my mammoth caves trip.

Well @Davtopgun Matt said it looks like he'd be cheaper buying the DIY weld kit from All-Pro.

For the All Pro Rack specifically he said $650 Painted and Mounted for you. He can get the steel cheaper than that weld-together kit, but his labor to do it would make it cost more. So basically if he did it you'd just save on paint/mounting/shipping costs as compared to All-Pro. You said "simple version" but you'd have to be more specific how you'd want to save cost on it and what you'd want to change.

much better option then. I don't see any cost savings for that rack design to be able to knock off $150.

Only reason I'm selling it so cheap is because I got it on a free shipping weekend they did. With shipping it would have been around $750! I think I paid $580 for it. I will let it go for $500 picked up here in Mobile, AL.

Yeah shipping is a huge cost on items like this stuff. So 650$ mounted/painted is a good price, just nothing fantastic.

Lol no yours is a way better deal, because you are painted and I'm sure you'd help mount it haha. So you're 150$ cheaper simply because "used"

Looks good, but I wonder if it would fit a short bed.

    Hmmm..

Can you post some measurements so I can see if it will fit a short bed?

This may be the options I go with. Bed racks are very pricey for a something that doesn't seem difficult to make.

I'll let you take the whole pipe bender with you. I've used it once to build a prerunner bumper in high school.
